This effect was generated in Filter Forge, a Photoshop plugin that allows you to create your own filters.
"Poster Maker" allows you to create posterized versions of your images. You can control colour and tone, abstraction, and colour depth. You can even make a halftone image, with realistic registration drift!
NOTE: This is an update of my original Poster Maker: I’ve made the halftone texture a bit more realistic by adding a separate black channel and by adding a component that varies the dot size – per channel – based on luminosity (many thanks to ThreeDee’s “Digital Halftone” for showing me how this works!). I’ve also given you better colour/tone controls and streamlined the filter a bit.
CONTROLS OF NOTE:
“Preserve Colour”: Sometimes adjusting the shadows, midtones, and highlights can cause a colour shift in your image. Click this checkbox to preserve the original hues.
"Registration Drift": If you're using the "Halftone" option, this slider controls how far out of alignment with each other the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black dots are, simulating a bad print job.
