Although it's slow, I suggest using high quality ambient occlusion when rendering small textures (click on the circle outside of the sphere in the lighting options to change this setting).

Bricks 2.0

May 13, 2011
A new brick filter that takes advantage of some of the new features available in Filter Forge 2.0, including ambient occlusion and hard directional shadowing through map scripting. The first preset uses both (slow but highest quality). The 2nd uses just ambient occlusion. 3rd uses just directional lighting. 4th is AO again.

The controls tend to be very touchy, so changing some values by more than 1 or 2 can have a significant impact on appearance.

Hard Shadows

March 9, 2011
This filter combines a custom map script, used to generate directional lighting and shadowing, with Filter Forge's built in environment lighting and ambient occlusion to achieve maximum realism. A variety of noise sources are available to test. Use source 10 for image inputs.

Light pitch is the upward angle of the light and should be between 0 (parallel to the surface) and 90 (straight down). Light yaw starts from the right (0 degrees) and moves up (90 degrees is from the top).

The shadow step settings control the quality of the shadow. Smaller step distances means better quality but requires higher step counts (slower render time) to avoid shadows from being cut short.

Use this snippet to convert your bump maps to high precision HDR normal maps. This filter can also generate standard normal maps for quick comparison.

Noise can be adjusted to keep any flat areas grainy. If the noise is cranked all the way up, the image brightness is used only for lighting (as a bump map) and has no impact on the grain. If it is set to 0, the wood grain is controlled entirely by the brightness of the image. Chisel allows for that rough carved look.
