simple Scanlines

April 25, 2008
Simple Scanlines overlays your image with horizontal lines. Note that this meant to be a stylized effect, rather than photorealistic render of how scanlines work on a TV. There’s several beautiful more realistic scanline filters out there.

This is based on the look of many grunge and ‘dark techno’ websites, which is what I made it for. :D

POP!

April 16, 2008
POP! makes soda pop, beer, or other sparking drinks, complete with bubbles. That’s it, that’s all it does. :) I created this to celebrate my 5th HU; kinda like a fizzy glass of champagne, FF style.

Use the ‘lazy recolor’ if you don’t want to futz with the color swatches. If you are using ‘random’, set ‘lazy recolor’ back to 50 to directly change the colors of the soda.

Lighting and HDRI Environment change the look of the bubbles a lot.

Industrial Carpet

March 25, 2008
Makes industrial carpets. You can control the colors and patterns of each set of squares, as well as the depth and bump. Generally works best if you make a 4 square 'tile' and then use it as a repeating texture.

Treasure Map v2

March 18, 2008
Treasure Map makes a square(ish) map with a dotted line. You'll have to choose for yourself where the treasure is buried, (unless someone can show me how to make an 'x' marks the spot!).

'Use Photoshop Source' allows you to draw your own path. Make a white background with a black path, and then run the filter.

Or you can have no path at all, and just a old peice of parchment to write upon.

Edited to improve speed, and add 'fiber distortion'.

You can control the stripes in the grass as well as the distortion of the paint. Use a selection to constrain the paint to a particular area.

What's a good football field without some mud? Use 'Muddy up the Field' to get that well used look.

You have the option of the front or back of the pegboard, and some simple hole and color controls. The size slider is useful on this one.

Use the overall size slider to make the bamboo smaller.

Thanks to Quasimondo for his 'Rotate 90*' filter; without it, I would have never gotten this to work.

Smoke/Steam

January 21, 2008
Smoke/Steam creates three variable layers of smoke or steam. Apply it on a background image, or on a solid background. Steam is additive and all white; Smoke is normal but contains grey pixels as well.

Back Layer – Thick Steam at the bottom, dispersing at the top.
Big Billows – Uniformly sized large billows of steam
Small Steam Columns – Vertical shafts of steam.

All three have roughness controls that modify the bottom (origin) of the steam. As steam dissipates, it loses definition, which is why the roughness sliders affect the bottom more than the top.

Size slider breaks this one mightily.

Midas

January 9, 2008
Midas takes your selection and turns it to gold.

Better examples of the effect in the comments. Does other metals, too, such as silver or brass. Works well on darker objects, or object with bright highlights rather than all white, as the highlight built in off of the object’s original highlight.

This is a simple effect, not a surface filter, so it doesn’t use the surface controls at all. To change the look of the reflection, use the reflection colors and blur amount.

Size slider doesn’t exactly break the effect, but it does cause the reflection gradient to repeat.

Scab

January 3, 2008
Scab is my first filter.

It uses the dark areas of any image to generate the scab pattern. Use 'Deviate from Orginal' to soften the edges of the wounded area.

Use the 'Source Adjust' slider to intensify the wound/infection; low values show just a hint of coruption, whereas high values will smother your entire picture in crusty infected scabrousness.

Currently it only works well with light skin tones. I hope to work out more realistic skin tones in an update, soon as I figure out how to make them work.

Have a gig at the Chrystal Ballroom? Band Flyer. Need to let people know where your Goth-fusion emopunk band Anglerfish is playing? Band Flyer. Need fake band flyer? Band Flier!!

Features: Contrast pop, pattern overlay, darken edge, grayscale method, 'metalize' and color replacement.

Comments page has some examples of flyers I put together.

Many thanks go to Richard Bartlett who's filter 'Color Isolate' is the inspiration for the color replacement method.

Pipeworx

December 18, 2007
Pipeworx creates a complex set of pipes and control panels. Made on request. It's not very fast due to the multiple layers of pipes, but includes optional rust/dirt, shadows, control panel colors, and more.

Use overall size to increase total density rather than tweaking each pipe layer's complexity. Higher levels of pipe complexity will look more organic (as many bends in the pipe blend together.)

I'm working on a faster version using the Do and Do not posts, but it's not coming too soon as I don't think I've directly broken any rules, just have a propensity to use blurs that I can't seem to get rid of.. Enjoy (and if any of you FF gurus would like to tell me how I can tweak this to go faster, I'd appreciate it.)

You can control the height of each set of buildings, and the color of the sky and windows. Window size is currently locked (due to the fact that you can't put a slider control to an intslider input) but you can use variation to change the building layout.

It IS a bit slow, but I think it's worth it.
