looking nice There is a filter that adds a bright point of light on your picture cant remember name you could put that in there with an offset to adjust where it is on the photo to really make it look shiny
or lots of small ones like that --really add some glare

looks really good as is though Smile

Thanx Smile I'll give that a try. I know that you don't catch it at first glance, but that worn-off glossy plastic on the top ridge and in the shadow is bugging the #@$%#$ out of me Smile

yup, it's the highlights/reflections that are killing the metal look and making it look plastic. you might try a set alpha with a threshold to kill those off and replace them with something else.

also, dont forget, even though you were going for metal, the 'plastic' is a valid texture/filter also.

also, you've now got 4 or 5 threads going in different places regarding this one filter. it helps if you keep one thread going on one filter. we can all keep the train of thought better that way.

I'll try that! I actually have a 'worn-chrome-over-neutral-plastic' filter in the works. You know how it is.....you get going on something, and before your finished, you get sidetracked onto something else....

Your right about posting in too many places....I'm confusing myself Smile

StevieJ,

Which filter of Kraellin's are you giving credit to? (Or was his influence not from his filters?)
I've recently made a similar, personal filter (sort of) to yours (but not uploaded it to the library), and would like to see other similar filters too...

P.S. If I ever do upload my filter to the library, I'd want to list in the description all other people's filters that it is similar to.

Hey ssamm Smile I gave credit to Kraellin for his "influence" being behind this filter. He thought that my "HeavyMetalCrome" filter looked like plastic....so it prompted me to come up with a filter that did look like metal. There are many other 'metal-like' filters, but none of them gave me what I was really looking for....that realistic metal texture and shimmer to bring out the 3D contour....

If you have a better metal filter, I would love to see it. If it works better than mine, I would definitely ask your permission to use it and give you credit for it Smile

My filter was just an experiment to see what "tone curve" with a wave-curve (and other curves) can do to my images. I sort of like the effects (and I sometimes still experiment adding various components...), but it was never intended (at least so far) to look like real metal.

Yours gives a very nice, polished metal look. I'm very impressed and don't have any ideas that would improve it. (But I'll be sure to post here if I get any.)
So good job -- it's quite inspiring!

Thanx ssamm and Whitedove Smile I truly appreciate your comments. I'm going to try experimenting with the order and set the Alpha with threshold like Kraellin suggested....so long as it does not change what I like about it so far......

Actually, I think you are an artist.....a filter artist.....I think alot of your filters are works of art unto themselves......and could most certainly be used to create art Smile
