Thank you very much Carl Smile I do have one question to ask, if you don't mind answering.
What is an Snippet?

Snippets are filters that allow you to construct effects using them or part of them either in concept or copy to build your own [ hopefully ] original filter. Snippets do a large number of effects for an example if you want to distort an image in a particular way, say melting you'd look to see if there is a snippet - but of course the whole library is a rescource centre with many clever solutions to filter effects, the trick is to do something original with the knowledge. Your filters have that originality and quality, and for some one just starting you can only get better as you learn the program and the huge compacity of variety.
Have a look at some of uberzev snippets his snippets can be found in many of the best filters, he's the snippet clever brain Wink .

Hopefully this is a help Smile ............ Carl Smile

Hi MysticBlueRaven~

Wanted to tell you the button filter is amazing~ ((Thank you for creating it))! I will be using this one because I am button nut... I make them and save them for later use in projects. The transparent sheets I store them on-------> I call that my 'button box'.

I'll place a resized and compressed (and merged) sample of the buttons I've done to give others ideas how to use the filter. ((Store the buttons created from the filter on a transparent sheet and save as a layered file.)) My here were made before I found FF--- alot of work to do what your filter can -------> Your filter rocks and I can't wait to make some buttons. They do however take time to make each one unique and then a whole sheet of them... you may want to think about making some to showcase in your comments section... ??. I did want to throw the idea out there~ Gotta have buttons~ I even used some for the center of scrapbooking bows----> tons of creative uses for buttons.

I remember as a girl I used to rummage thru my Mothers Button Box... Big grin

P.S. Buttons are resized and compressed. Oh before I forget about snippets--> I don't use them... personal preference, because I like to rely on my creativity and a snippet for me personally would be a crutch I don't want ((but I hear lots of people love them, whatever works for each artist)). Who knows I may use them someday Smile Just wanted to tell you that you don't have to use snippets... you're doing just fine.

Thank you very much Jean, I am also a button nut, and have made several hundred in paint shop pro and saved in psd format, each button on its own layer. Also made them into tubes. It seems like it took forever to make just one.
What size buttons do you make for your trandparent sheet?
That is an great idea about doing an show case, I think I will work on one tonight and get it posted.
I love how you did you transparent sheet.
As far as the snippets go I was just wondering what thet were and what they were used for. I have alot to learn about this plugin and I am enjoy making new filters very much.
P.S I used to raid my grandmothers and my great aunts button boxes.

There is just something about buttons~
Big grin

That sheet is 512 by 482... normally I make mine 500 x 500. Now I don't use PSP anymore but used to know it like the back of my hand----------> great program. If you make sheets (Button Boxes) you could save the file as a .psp layer on a transparency.

Currently I use Uleads PhotoImpact and we use 'stamps' which are used like tubes. I can and have loaded the buttons in there but I like the sheets.

I used to have more buttons but somehow I must have accidently deleted all sheets but this one. I'll just have to make more~

I knew I liked you! We're both button nuts~ Oh definately try putting them on a sheet that will save some time and it will make you feel like you are rummaging thru a button box when you go to select one.

Several hundred-----> I hear ya~ For some reason when I make them it's relaxing and I'll keep making them for hours, and if it's late at night then I'll stay up late making them. On the buttons you saw in this thread it's been awhile since I made them but pretty sure-------> Flaming Pear filters. Aetherize, Glare, Lacquer ect,. I'm new to FF too so I'm not sure what to reccomend for the buttons, guess we can find out at the same time.

Yep I'm near the end of 30 days --- new to FF not graphics. Don't worry I won't be leaving when the 30 days are up. Big grin

I find it strange that you should want to discourage filter designers from one of the avenues of learning. Snippets are just another tool with in a program which is made up of tools [ components created by other people ] all created not to stiffle creativity but to enhance it.

Excatly, the snippets also extend the possibilites of funtions in a filter. For instance if you wanted to create a filter that looks like a painting...You could put in "Any Angle" snippet and have the brush turn to any angle..

Or think of these as plug-ins for filters.. Big grin

Not discourging~ Just not pressuring her in that direction~ Whatever works for each artist is always the best way. Snippets are great for those who want them----> I even said I may use them one day. But personally for me they would be a crutch at this stage because I need to push myself to figure it out. Each artist is different. And snippet use if 'great' for those who want it. Also great that snippets are available. It's all good~

I find it strange that a discussion other then showing images or giving praise is not the only thing going on... Big grin Please keep that kind of talk off others comment threads~

Here is a small button Box I made for the filter~

For my new friend Mystic Blue Raven~

Hi Mystic Blue Raven~

If you've played with the filter then you know it's a bit tricky getting the button to be round because of the reflection on the edges~ Here's what I did:

select object

Invert selection

shrink selection

soften selection

copy and mirror horizontally

Copy and mirror vertically

Merge as a single layer

(Went from memory so it may take a few more rotates or mirrors---> but it will perfectly round and just right for application.)

Then cut out some buttons holes. (They will shrink so make them a nice size.)

Duplicate the layer.

Apply a filter of CFandM's Wall Mix.

Add a transparency to the Wall Mix layer.

Resize to the size you want.

Then apply any filter----> now it's ready to play with. The filter now goes on without any white area~ Big grin So there is nothing to cut off. Copy and paste a whole bunch onto a sheet----> then layer with different filters and have some button fun.

I made a small button box for display and the last filter layer as my 'Groovey' filter~ (((I know I'll be making a very large button box for personal use))). Thank you so much for making this filter!!!

Jean

Hi Jean
I also start my buttons out either 500x500 or 800x800 then the finish button get shrinks down to around 380x380 and layered on an 1200x1200 psd sheet. The filter I have used to make them before FF are flaming pears super blade pro, alien skin eye candy 4000 and all 3 of eye candy5 . I also use programs like poser 5,6, terragen 9. bryce, and vue4.22.
What other programs do you use?
Beside button I also am a bigg bead fan and have done alot of bead work.
I love you mini tutorial will have to play with it after I get the 55 gallon biofilter cleaned and the 20 in pond filter cleaned out. I am waiting to the filter media to fish washing in the washing machine. I have a total of 2 laods of fish laundry to do lol

To set the records straight Jean did not discourage me from investing snippets, she just gave me her opinion about them. I haven't closed my mind about them. As she stated I don't use them... personal preference. So on to more interesting topics

Hi Lynn~
I also start my buttons out either 500x500 or 800x800 then the finish button get shrinks down to around 380x380 and layered on an 1200x1200 psd sheet
If you shrink first the apply you'll get a better application as resizing blurs the image. ((Just try it and you'll see)).
The filter I have used to make them before FF are flaming pears super blade pro, alien skin eye candy 4000 and all 3 of eye candy5.
LOL~ You love buttons and filters--------> Yep~ Yep~ Me too. I usually mention the Flaming Pear filters because my filter list is very very long. I've had so many filters before that the paint program can't load, so now what I do is keep the fitlers I'm using the most and put the others in a back up folder named 'filter storage'. Then I swap out every few months.
I also use programs like poser 5,6, terragen 9. bryce, and vue4.22.

Well I've havn't jumped into 3D yet. I started making graphics in 1997 and have used Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro and Ulead PhotoImpact (all three can use Adobe compatible plugins) thru out the 10 years. Right now I'm using PI (short for PhotoImpact by Ulead). I keep saying one of these days I'll jump into 3D but it hasn't happened yet. Just having too much fun in 2D.
Beside button I also am a bigg bead fan and have done alot of bead work./QUOTE]

I'll bet it's beautiful~
I love you mini tutorial will have to play with it after I get the 55 gallon biofilter cleaned and the 20 in pond filter cleaned out. I am waiting to the filter media to fish washing in the washing machine. I have a total of 2 laods of fish laundry to do lol
I wanted to post it for you just in case you had trouble with the edges----> it's a bit jagged due to the 'great' reflection. Gotta have the reflection and easy to work around in the graphics program. In case any lurkers have trouble with the edge that should help them be able to use the fitler and have fun with it.

Yikes, lots of work on the fish pool~ You take great care of them~

Big grin Big grin Big grin So glad you found FF and 'love the filter'!

I also have an large collection of filters, I have then in an folder called shared plugins, this way I can use them in psp 8 and and 11 without having to install them in each one.
I have been using poser 5 for a couple of years now, I have so much poser models it isn't funny. I have sent alot of time in Daz3d store and thier artzone. I am always looking for ways to improve my texturing skills.

This will be the most random comment on any filter I have ever given, but look at the preset closely. You can see a hill reflecting off the button, and just to the left of the hill it looks like a giant frog. What is that????

Not that you need it, but cool filter Big grin

Okay so I really am not offended, but I don't take medicine.

I was at work, it was late, I was tired; but I really do see the frog, and I am sticking with it. Cool
