thanks, steve, carl Smile

i think this is one of my most professional filters yet. i dont have a lot of use for it either, but i kept thinking about 3d and game applications and i think it would work well in either.

i just had an email inquiry on this filter and it sort of raised the question about imported patterns. good idea. so, i altered the filter a bit and if anyone likes it, i'll upload it. basically, i just added a switch between the texture portion and the ripple effect and added an 'image' and an 'image' and 'blend' component to allow one to switch between the texture, the image as a texture and the image and texture blended together as a texture.

here's an example of the mixed one using patriciakay's flower pic:

well, i always hate doing updates. i'd rather do versions. but, this one deletes nothing, so nobody is going to lose anything they had in the first one.

well, i've been trying out some more pictures with this. i dont like it very much. it works with a few quite nicely, like the one i posted, but darker images tend to sort of shadow out the ripple effect and it doesnt look much like drapes any more.

so, i'll have to play some more.

LOL well I think it's worth getting it to work properly but still as an update, but if it's easier/work right a separate filter may be the solution - and yes I've been no help at all LOL Big grin

hehe, ya know, that's just not true. sometimes one needs a 'sounding board' to bounce things off of, ya know? just someone there to listen, suggest, ask, helps Smile i've made it a little better on some of those other images already. still not sure it's going to work on all, though.

ok, carl, been working on this some more. i've turned it into a surface filter. this adds some nice texture. i also streamlined the 'threads' for faster rendering and a more even consistency.

and on the import image side, i've added a base color to the background which helps tweak the mix of import to ripple. i'm still not sure just a straight import is going to work right. i may have to limit it to import + texture and then add both to the ripple effect. we'll see Smile

the attached image is with texture plus image plus ripple.

I like the image, the thread and image combination is very effective, the only thing [ and the lifesaver may be the culprit ] is that the image in some places doesn't seem to flow with the cloth curves as eccentuated as I would like but it might be the curves in the life preserver competing with the cloth flow - other wise excellent Smile

yup, i agree. it's not doing much to the life preserver itself. the background and preserver shadows look ok, but not the preserver itself. ah well, back to the drawing board.

Excellent filter.....but unfortunately there are at least three versions of it that are diluting Uni-Bomber usage..... Wink Big grin
