Don't listen to Craig.....listen to me!!! Remove the external image!!!
I don't think there are "Glazed Ceramic Tiles" ( ) like this in the library..... Okay, we're going to need a third professional opinion on whether or not to loose the external image.....I don't think it goes with it at all.....and much more usable without it..... Steve

Very nice Carl. I remember I used to see glass blocks everywhere, especially in office buildings, but now I hardly seem them at all. I seem to remember mostly green glass.
How about an opinion from the peanut section instead. I would definitely leave the image in and refract it a tiny bit (.5 or so) using the blur coming off the inverted gradient as the height - just to help sell the glass. I also prefer a normal (with opacity control) rather than a darken blend mode to tie the image to the glass. And like that's not enough I also think the refection blur broke out (limited to about 65%) with a slider really helps. These are just thoughts, I like it just as it is. How do I look? You look ready... [Kill Bill] |

here's a thought, and bear in mind that i havent actually looked at the guts on this one yet, so maybe you've already done this, but, what if you set the image component to the height of the results component? the current image looks to be blended INTO the glass a bit on some of those presets, so, if you moved the image to the height control and darkened it a bit to set it further into the background, wouldnt that give you more separation between glass and background?
and if that just mottles and warps the height of the glass, then perhaps another method for getting some separation in the depth of the two planes? Ya can't sell art to artists!

by george, i think he's got it! the image now looks correct, carl, like it's under the glass instead of partially in it. well done! what'd you do to it? Ya can't sell art to artists!

This looks great Carl. I really like how you blurred the refraction then blended it back with screen. It really does look like glass. How do I look? You look ready... [Kill Bill] |

Been working on giving more depth to the bricks and I've added mortar, this has slowed the filter right down to 2.25 min on a quad so will have to speed up before resubmitting - if I get rid of the mortar it's alot faster ![]() I'm going to live forever or die trying

Love the filter, but not thrilled with the smooth mortar......maybe a rough mortar would look better..... Steve

I really like the mortar - I think it is much better with it. I am not sure what glass block mortar is composed of but to me it looks accurate. Too bad about the performance hit but isn't that the way it goes. Have you tried Sphinx.'s Forced Buffering Optimization on it? I have not had time to look at what it does but it looks very interesting and I would like to give it a try on a couple of mine one day.
Good luck on the optimization. How do I look? You look ready... [Kill Bill] |

I think with the finer mortar the gaps should be smaller. Which is faster?
I just did a google images for 'glass blocks' and it looks like a lot of people put what appears to be lumber in between them. How do I look? You look ready... [Kill Bill] |
