I don't like how perfect it all is, very boring in that sense, very square with 90* edges etc. (the curtain themselves, and how it's just exactly the same each tiem it repeats, or appears to be). However, you've probably got the best doilie-type patterns going on that I've seen yet. So please balance those 2 comments out, and realize this filter only needs a little more tweaking, and it'll probably go HU. That, and that you should make a silly doilie filter using the guts of it, and claim a for-sure-and-a-half HU for that one. Pimp

Thanks, jffe!

Yeah, I'm poking the guts to make a doilies thingy, but it's being persistently... boring looking. Working on that.

As for the curtains being boring... you're totally right, and I've been experimenting with making them less so. Many of the 'shifts' and 'distorts' I've been using just make it look weird, so I'm still working on it.

Small tip: The shadow areas are completely black, which they wouldn't be in reality... Wink Big grin

And they weren't in the original. Arg. I thought I fixed that before I uploaded. Ok, another update coming.

Much, much nicer looking now. Ahimsa and kraellin would be proud (I think they had some silky looking draperies filters a while back), this latest version is looking much more 'realistic' and all. Smile And I still think you could make a good doilie filter, not that I want one ha-ha, just saying, those patterns look very doilie-friendly to me is all.

The shadows are still way too dark for my tastes, but you're getting there... Devil Grin Devil

Hmmm. Maybe I'll include a darkness slider for the shadows. They look fine (can see the lace all the way though the shadow) on my system, but that's something that gamma will effect a lot.

Yeah, you could just use a blend component and limit the greyscale parameters on the noise background....

The addition of some distortion is looking good!!! Cool

looks pretty damn good to me, but a dark/light slider might be good for varying tastes.

It kinda breaks the 'lace' look, which is why preset 2 looks like... well, not nice. I didn't catch that one before I sent it, which means I need to update it...again.

Yup. Probably will do that tonight.

You know, it's pretty funny that I'm spending all this time on a filter that is so specialized it likely won't get used much.

I'm good at that. Big grin

Wow.

You know, what's weird is that this filter came out of a totally unrelated one, and I never intended it to be a curtain filter... just wanted something to show off the lace effect. It's like i reinvented the wheel... but only as a byproduct of making a turing machine.

Turing Machine (Wikipedia) "Turing machines are extremely basic abstract symbol-manipulating devices which, despite their simplicity, can be adapted to simulate the logic of any computer that could possibly be constructed."

It's a complicated calculating device, mostly used as an example of an complex " thought experiment about the limits of mechanical computation; thus they were not actually constructed"

I don't pretend to understand them, I just think the concept is nifty.
