Fancy Example...

Simple first 3 steps...

The scaling is 1/sqrt(3) = 0.5773502692 for subsequent steps.

Hehe. I haven't recovered from the last challenge (Hyperbolic Tiling) yet...

This is actually easier that the previous one. And with the new Components in V3 it should be considerably faster and easier than in earlier versions.

Challenge nonetheless.

And adding inverse to every second tile (slightly more complicated), we get:

Nice job 3d!

Don't post your filter yet. I've nearly got this figured out and don't want to be accused of copying! smile:blush:

Can you make an image like this ThreeDee?

(might be good as one of the defaults for your filter)

Good one and well done, I like the black lines that defines the polygonal shapes

Image

I wonder if it would be possible to have MORE different shapes than this one using the same technique or algorithm?

Image

Perhaps like the star shapes or a triangular shape ?

The technique would be similar but it would be a different algorithm. As the scaling/rotation/offset would change.

Similar. Since I scale the input, the lines shrink down as well (although that could be dealt with if needed). Here I mapped the spectral gradient into it.

Looks very good! (but the formula is a bit different that the one I was referring to)

I realize now that you've re-engineered the "fancy" spiral version as apposed to the the more homogenious one. That's the one I've been working on so you haven't completely stole my thunder yet. smile:D

Your version seems to have a "sharper falloff" (for lack of a better term). The next levels only have 18 copies vs 24 for the rounder version.

Oh, I see -- I missed the obvious difference! smile:blush: Well, it should be just a different offset and/or scale value.

Looking at the color examples from uberzev and Threedee, I prefer much better the uberzev result that is cleaner and looks more elegant and perfectly done, although I think that ThreeDee now what is happening with his version and could perhaps fix it to be more like the nicer uberzev´s version

Let´s see who wins smile;) smile:D

My Version is "borrowed" from the Fractal Tilings website so ThreeDee wins by default. smile;)

As far his ugly edges that's a pretty basic fix but not important right now.

I've got everything working for the first four iteration levels. The fifth gets wonky though. smile:hammer:

Looking good. I imagine we have rather similar constructions -- there ain't that many ways of doing this (discounting scripting).

I doubt I will do a version with unified line weight. Which is really a matter of different thresholds at different levels. I like the fractal style where everything scales down.

Here's a test from the "fancy" version with a different unit tile.

I mean the "getting right" part IS HARDCORE. But the way you did the for loop never occurred to me. smile:| It was this loud sigh of "oh" and then me yelling "... the f that's better than what I'm doing." smile:(
