Beautiful, but slow. Also, the default preset lacks contrast, here's how it could be improved:

Ah, thanks. Shall I re-submit it with the preferred preset?

Heh... No kidding! I've been using FF more than I've been using Photoshop lately... which is really saying something for me. smile:loveff:

I've got a copper-pipe network generator filter going which kept me up to 1:30am last night ...

Well, it was a school night.... (shrug) some of us have to work for a living!

So, Kraellin or 'Dilla, do you guys have any tips on how to improve the speed of this particular filter?

Haven't had the time to look into its guts yet, as I'm terribly busy at the moment... smile:|

Ok.. took a shot at optimizing this one.. its very close to the original (second edition), and the filter renders almost twice as fast now smile:)

Ah, thanks sphinx. I'm definitely planning on revisiting this filter, so I'll incorporate your effciency improvements. I think using the threshold method detracts a bit from the rock texture, though... blends add that little bit of complexity.

i've been playing around with the original today and got the time down to less than half the original. yes, the look has changed a bit, but still retains the main, overall effect. well, you be the judge.

I think this filter is great!

However, I think that too much darkness is baked into the diffuse map. I'm a firm believer in baking every lighting effect into the bump map (and calculating ambient occlusion from that in the output rendering engine, if necessary).

I wonder if there could be a slider for how much of the darkening should be in the diffuse map, versus in the bump map?

This is excellent. There are beautiful gnarly tree roots in the reflective occlusion map. Thanks smile:)
