I'll work on it some more to get the fluffy stuff more realistic
and correct the height map to do away with that upper and lower ridge

Awesome! nice work.
at least 90 percent of all sensation is texture, even beyond the visual, with elements of noise, tone, gradients, interval and degree.

Nice! I really like how the center turned out. Flower pedals look good too, not sure about the glossy appearance though (looks as if they're wet or coated with lacquer or something). Btw you should check out the threshold clipping trick - with a few strategically placed thresholds the filter renders twice as fast.

The plastic-y looking petals are kinda weird to me, and FF can't handle the inner seed detail at 600 X 600, but as usual, this is totally amazing work Sjeiti. smile:) smile:pimp:

Hmmms... the crux is probably in the word 'stratecigally'. I spend some time replacing stuff here and there with thresholds, only to make it slower smile:?:. Where exactly should I place those? Did you test that with this filter?

I'll turn tweak the reflection some more, petals reflect light a bit weirdly.

you could probably just turn up the reflection blur, sjeiti, and that would dull down the reflections a bit and make them more natural looking. now, if the filter isnt a surface type, then i'm all wet smile:)

I think the diffuse map is pretty cool as well. You could probably do a non-surface filter with this.

Ok then, perhaps a little more than a few.. I attached an optimized version, and here I'm not only using the thresholds for clipping, but also for blending and set alpha operations. The result is not 100% identical, but very close.

The anti-aliasing pass takes just as long, but the first render pass is double speed at least. smile:D 2:58 vs. 1:31
