Indeed, couldn't agree more!
This can be very useful, not only as a creative effect but for correction/enhancement!

Btw, I recently tried Nik's Color Efx and this filter reminded me of their 'Tonal Contrast' effect, which is great and can be very distinctive on micro details enhancement.(I even tried to figure how it works -- with no success smile:( ).
Is there any other filter on the library that can achieve a "Tonal Contrast" type of effect?

This is really great filter to get much more detail and sharpen and is very good and high quality effect.

I like the good effect shown on the train station where you can see all the cables and great detail.

Here is an example I have just made to show how good it is using the FF 3.0 slider preview in half
