Level 1:

Image
Particular challenge here are the flat faces.
Filter should be able to do different numbers of subdivisions from octahedron on up.

Level 2:
Input image mapped onto each face. Or onto the entire sphere.

For some reason the image won't load properly...
I tried it with several browsers, and deleted caches, still only the top fifth of the image loads smile:(

And that's the ONLY reason why I won't solve this challange smile:D

So have you already figured this out ThreeDee? I'm not gonna try if you already have a solution. smile:deer:

No, I haven't figured it out. I tried some time back to make this in FF2, which never worked out. Maybe it is possible now. As I recall I got stuck on trying to make a curve that had straight line segments. (It is altogether possible this requires a curve script for that purpose.)

There are likely other solutions I didn't think of.

Ok, so I had to script the segmented curve, but now we're getting somewhere...

(But it looks like the horizontal part is missing some curvyness)

nice and well done shapes

Although I would like to have another color rather than orange, sorry I personally do not like it, but this is my problem

Personally I think orange is the color all other colors strive to emulate.

That orange must have taken hours to create. Mixture of all nodes to produce that one color. </sarcasm>

Aside from the orange... smile:p I don't know how even close I'd get to producing the Gouraud shading look and feel. Just awesome.

Getting some perspective into it is a different matter -- I haven't thought it that far.

Skybase, here's one for you:

Hmm. Not quite the same as the original idea without perspective.

I like much the Gouraud shading look of that green sphere.

Now after seeing this last two examples I have just had the idea that the well done square could be filled with individual images, perhaps 5 images that could be repeated around the sphere squares.

So when you assemble the shape, are you doing it in chunks (for example: produce one quarter of it and put it together) or do you process the entire shape all at once?

Yes, that's pretty much the idea of the Level 2 challenge in the OP.

All at once from two gradients. It is similar to making a regular sphere with two gradients and the Circular Arc curve, the biggest difference being the custom curve script that makes the curve segmented.

The "wireframe" lines are down-and-dirty threshholded highpass of the edges.

Cool and well done, congratulations!!

After looking at your well done lifesaver example, I had the idea that it could also be done the lifesaver with transparency and without the red lines and it would look that they are lifesavers in middle of the air smile:) Although do not know if it would look good and nice or not.

smile:D smile:D Well it was not obligatory, but is a good suggestion and it looks very well, don“t you think?smile;)

Latest version. If you look closely you will see it is no longer "perfect". I can't think of a way to give it proper perspective without damaging the flat faces in one way or another. Other than fully scripting it which I'm not about to do. So I guess this is as close as I will get.
