Hiya there
I've been trying FF for a few days, and I love it the quality of the filters is staggering. I have two areas of concer however and i wonder if there is a solution..
1) Some filters seem to take an age to render, despite having a very powerful quad processor and hefty graphics card, others seem to render in a few seconds, I suppose this must be the complexity of the filter.. but is there a way to spped this up.
2) While the online collection is staggering in both depth and quality, there seems to be only the option to ''open in FF'' now this is great, untill of course you HD fails (God forbid) and you are faced with the daunting task of re-downloading all the filters. Is there a way to store/back up all downloaded filters ? so that should a disaster take place and a re-install is needed you wont have to go hunting down all the filters again.
Mant thanks in anticipation of an answer, and great big thanks to all of you who have made and shared such quality work.

1) I'm not aware of anything to speed up rendering, aside from changing internal filter structure (and possibly it's look). Complex things will take longer to render.
2) look inside your: C:\Program Files\Filter Forge\Resources\System\Library |

the filters themselves are nothing more than .xml files or a version thereof. these are all text. they can be saved off in any manner you wish, cd, dvd, external drive, thumbdrive, etc. they are completely restorable in the same wise. i believe i recall one of the admins here recommending you save off the whole filter folder with all the caches and so on, as well.
also look in c:\your windows user account\documents and settings\application data\filter forge\my filters and save all those as well. those are filters you've made or saved off as your own.
you can speed up rendering by picking the option in the menu system for displaying a smaller file size of your image or by picking a smaller image size in 'new image' from the file system. so, if you're working with a 2400 x 2400 image and want to get a faster preview, just pick the option in the menu system that renders a lower resolution. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Kraellin is quite correct. I'd only like to add that yes, if you have a lot of disk space for backup, it's better to backup the whole "System" folder -- apart from the filters, it also contains cache, thumbnails and some other files. It's not really necessary to backup these but it can save you time later -- you will not have to render them anew.
The path for the library filters is:
%APPDATA%\Filter Forge\System\Library
(by default it is C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Filter Forge\System\Library)
The path for your own filters is:
%APPDATA%\Filter Forge\My Filters
(by default it is C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Filter Forge\My Filters). |

I would also add that backing up the _entire_ "%APPDATA%\Filter Forge" folder (type quoted text with quotes included into your Start->Run... box to get there fast) is the easiest and safest way |

yes, i had it a bit wrong. your 'my filters' and the filter library are both under c\documents and settings\your windows account name\application data\filter forge\ ... or what Bella said If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
