Sorry mate. We should form a creative team around this filter, but first it needs a secret code name, like D2N, so we can talk open and freely about it... - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |

totte, i think you're closer to the tree rings with the first two. stick the whole in a frames and use the corners and inner/outer frame to define the outside area. and i think you could do the splitting/cracking with the depth side of a surface filter. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Craig, Looks like I will have (as usual) different methods for ring creating and without optional different core color.
I've also thought of adding a "round option" to add an optional out bark layer too, but then I player with it in a 3D renderer, (using the cool, new bark by Aurum), and I think the new ones do look better, make your own opinion here. And for the height map, I'm planning to get som good "lumberjack" heights, or modern flat cut, but that is beast to fix, but I'm on to it. ![]() - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |

Sorry there, you need at least the minimum basic version to run it. Why not just purchase the cheapest sneakversion, and later on upgrade? - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |

Oh shoot! I would buy the basic, but it doesn't support .png - and the transparent background was one of the coolest things about those frames. (In addition to not having any extra money -- I had to buy a new hard drive -- it just came this week. It didn't say in the product description, but it was OEM. No directions, no SATA cable, and my computer didn't have ONE single solitary extra screw! How do you say "nightmare" in Swedish? Ronjonnie, Not yet. Between the Windows 7 upgrade and the need for a new hard drive, I didn't have the time or space to fool with it. I was just hoping I could snag a dozen of those frames without having the program. Thanks! Suzy used my own Pop Art filter on my avatar |

Hi Lime,
Good luck to you with all of that. Don't hesitate to ask Customer Support, for that extension, once you are up & running. I know for a fact that they will give you one, unless the policy has changed, which I doubt. The Pro version beats the Basic version!! I have both. Hey Totte, Those are some super Cool posts you have there!! Love them! Later, Ron zazzle.com/Ronspassionfordesign*

Hey Totte:
Those wall bits look great! A couple ideas for you; 1) Have you checked out my 'generic window maker' filter? http://www.filterforge.com/filters/8221.html Would be a cool thing to add. Note: same technique could also work for doors, or for making other column / beam shapes. 2) A lot of medieval timber construction used curved beams, sort of mimicing the gothic pointed arch. Gothic Arch Image 3)You may have already seen this. There are certain grid configurations which are tilable: (More useful for your floors) |

Can I be your apprentice? How do you guys learn the skills for making such great looking photorealistic filter?! |

@ Morgantao
First, it's simple, dissect any filter that looks good, learn from the masters. I learned a lot from Crapadilla, Mike Blackney and some others when I started. Second, try try and try again. Aim for something, like a photo of a texture, and brak down that photo in your head into components, for example stone, wood, damage, dirt, cloth or whatever you have on it, then isolate each of those elements, make a filter that can produce that look. Then take the next, and the next. Soon you will know each of those by heart. Third, now look at that image again, analyze this time how those elements mix, and try to create that mixing using noises and thresholds or blends. Now you can take your materials and mix them together for you final filter. - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |
