YES, I love you too ThreeDee for making this great and excellent shadow filter and that is very useful and more than you could think as I have changed your filter a little and have discovered that it has a much greater potential and much more useful and amazing than I could have thought looking at the example of the first post.
I agree totally this is totally cool, helpful, awesome and well done and get a excellent effect and I thanks you very much for sharing this As said I have changed a little your filter adding some more controls that change the usefulness and effects much and now you can do much more things with it IN FACT I HAVE DONE 50 PRESETS to show the new many possible ways this could be used. See here below the list of the 50 PRESETS ![]() |

And here is the modified version of the filter for you to see for yourself those presets with your OWN images, as I have made them with the main image component, so you can load your own image and then try any of the 50 presets on your image to see how it looks like.

Looks awesome ThreeDee!
Why don't you add this to the library as a snippet? ![]() |

I really LOVE MUCH this filter in my own and special way as I use it for making tiled images with boxed shadows.
This is really beautiful to make this kind of squared collages I have used the uploaded above filter with a slighty modification added to make this What is amazing and great is that ALL this comes from a very simple and plain texture, all the color shades and shadows are added by the filter ![]() |

Here is the new updated and better filter version of this awesome Blast Shadows technique made by ThreeDee that I love much
Now you can control the tiles amount and have as few or as many as you want with the Tile Amount Also have renamed some of the settings and have made a better order of them and cleaner (at least from my point of view) Also I have added the option to choose the image source, unchecked means that it will take the main image source loaded AND it will also take the main image resolution. If you activate and check the image source then it will change to the color control image source below that you load AND the main difference is that you will be able to put YOUR OWN FINAL RESOLUTION without having to use the image source resolution, so this way you can make the size much bigger than the image and design the square collage as you want. SpaceRay, one of these days you'll figure to use this on your snow filter.

I already know that this filter is mainly for giving shadows to simulate and give the illusion of 3D and make more realistic shadows. I have ALREADY tried to use this Blast Shadows filter with my own Heavy Snow filter before releasing it to the FF Library to see if this could give better shadows than the Hard Shadows filter or could be used better, BUT as you have said right, I could not figure out how to use it right to give a good effect and I had a bad result, so I kept the Hard Shadows better. |

Have made another different test with this great shadows filter, mixing two different images with stripes and applying this fast cast shadows filter and got this nice result
For this test you ONLY have to replace the two tiles components of the original filter above and put the source you want from any group of components ![]() |

NEW SHADOWS FILTER BASED ON NOISE COMPONENTS
Below I have uploaded a new filter based on noise components instead of only tiles I have also made a new thread with ALL about shadows that can be seen in this thread Simulating real shadows inside Filter Forge ThreeDee have done in the first post an example with tiles ![]() And the filter uploaded on the second post uses only tiles Then ThreeDeee showed also this other example ![]() And this is done with the Noise Blocks component, but this is not available with the original filter, and just replacing the tiles component does not work right as you would expect, so I have modified the original filter removing the tiles and have used all the Noise components so you can choose which want you want Also have added some noise controls with controled settings made by remapping that it was why it did not work as expected The presets are in the same order that the Noise type and have added two scales NOISE TYPES ORDER 1 - Blocks 2 - Cells 3 - Chaffs 4 - Perlin Noise 5 - Pyramids 6 - Stones 7 -Techno This list is also included inside the filter in the about tab I have just seen that without knowing it I made this with FF 4.0, sorry Blast Shadows Noise source.ffxml |

But I have seen also that the above result from ThreeDee shown here in the post above looks very sharpen and the results from the filter I have uploaded above are not sharpen as this one, so I have decided to change the filter into a surface filter so it can be made better and I got something much better and as sharpen and well defined as the ThreeDee example
As you can see in the example below the surface version looks much better than the non surface, maybe because also that I may probably have done something wrong in the above filter here and should need more components to get it more defined if I do not want to use the surface filter. ![]() |

Here is the new filter using Surface result to get much better and sharper results
Also there is additionally an important thing, and is that now you can also use the Lighting tab, and if you want, also can use the Ambient Occlusion (AO) I have not used any AO and default Lighting settings in the presets, just try and experiment yourself modifying them Blast Shadows Noise source Surface.ffxml |

After so much time I really like much this filter that may give unique and unusual ways to add shadows in tiles or with any other shape or way that you may want as this is not at all exclusive to be used with tiles only, just replace the tiles with what you want
I really miss very much when there was many things like in the FF forum that would bring cool, useful and interesting special things. I miss much people that are in this thread like ThreeDee, Skybase, Sharandra, Morgantao and and many other users that are not anymore in the forum I also like much things made by Indigo Ray but he was seen in January 2022 |
