I've got a quick question. When I submit my latest filter, I've got a set of files that support my new filter (Rickster designed brush shapes in png format). How do I go about submitting the support files? I may have additional brush shapes in the future to add to the brush "library" as well.

There is no library infrastructure for support files, so your best bet is to post them inside the comments thread of your filter.

Ok, fair enough. Of course, this raises another question smile;) If my presets for the filter use these files, are they uploaded during the filter submission process? If not, I'm not sure how to submit the new filter without these external png brush files.
Thanks in advance,

Well, I just read "New to filter forge and have a question" and see that support files are not uploaded. Since the support files are not uploaded to FF, are there any ways around this? The new filter requires brush shapes. I can do all the presets with an FF generated brush (a noisy ellipse)... but this will not show off the filter's true power, blah, blah, blah.

Recreating the brush inside FF as efficiently/realistically as possible would be the road I'd take. That way the filter works right out-of-the-box, no support images needed.

I don't know whether this is by (Vlad's) conscious design, but the support files "limitation" certainly forces you to be as procedural as possible, which is a welcome challenge in my book. smile8)

Yup, procedural 100% is the way to go in FilterForge and nothing else. (If you ask me that is.)

I can see the reasoning. I made a feature request for an "external image component" in the features request forum. May not fly smile;) Your point about recreating as much as possible in FF makes complete sense. The flip side: the brush shape images I have created probably can not be created in FF (example brush attached). Maybe a bitmap component that allows up to 200x200 with alpha? Playing devils advocate, I can see that external images go against the open source / self contained nature of FF.

I am going to release my next filter with the built in "noisy" ellipse brush, and allow the option to use external images instead. And I will provide a link to my site for the brushes with a user/password for the FF users.

Thanks for the info/advice Crapadilla!

I think that if there was a way to "pack" resource or support images with a filter it would be a good thing. I recently built a filter that creates chocolate with toppings such as peanuts. I can create a fairly realistic peanut quickly and easily as a vector illustration but it is a frustrating and painstaking process trying to do it procedurally in FF My vector peanuts which were exported as pngs and loaded into the bomber via colour controls were much more realistic looking.
