I would like a filter forge filter that does something like Esoterica Blobs fr om corel painter.
It basically creates random holes (aka blobs)in a picture such as the picture at this link.
Effect I would like
You can control min and size and amount of holes. The holes kinda push the underlying picture out of way so the picture flows around the holes so that the holes can fit in nice rather than just cutting a hole.

What would be nice is even more control over hole placement, option to just make a few clicks wh ere you want the holes to be and edge detection option so that no holes wind up cut off on the picture edge.

Also pixalbender for photoshop has a filter called HOLE that does something similar but with just one hole at a time with precise placement of the 1 hole.

Oh yes and no one has the option to mask an area in your own shape (such as a star or a square)and have that shape drive the picture outward and around it so that the picture flows around the masked area hugging it's outer contours kinda like the holes effect

If thar be a filter mister up to that, it would be really cool.

I have made a little update to the uberBlobs filter

Added the Row Shift holes for not having them all in straight rows, changed the names to be better shown, and also added some more things for changing the colors of the holes.

The hole fill mode will not work if you do not have a image selected in the "Hole Color"

Hole fill mode is

1 = Normal image (will show the loaded image through holes)
2 = Jumbled Image according to the holes size and width
3 = Solid Fill Colors from the source image

There are 15 Presets I have made so you can see some of the things you could do.

IMPORTANT: I have added the Hole Chaos mode, BUT it does not work, I mean it moves the holes BUT the effect from the lookup does not move accordingly as it happens with the Row Shift

One thing I love much from this filter made from uberzev is the very nice noise texture he has made as can be seen here

These blobs filters are much fun, Thanks for the effort.

One thing I had mentioned towards the end of my original post is that no one in any software that I'm aware of has the option to mask an area in your own shape (such as a star or a square or hand drawn shape)in photoshop and have that shape (selection) drive the picture outward and around it so that the picture flows around the masked area hugging it's outer contours kinda like the holes effect.

So rather than having math driven holes being what the image flows around.
The image would flow around whatever you selected(masked) in photoshop.

That would be cool to smile:)

It's been about a year And I still have not figured out how to do this.

I had mentioned towards the end of my original post is that no one in any software that I'm aware of has the option to mask an area in your own shape (such as a star or a square or hand drawn shape)in Photoshop and have that shape (selection) drive the picture outward and around it so that the picture flows around the masked area hugging it's outer contours kinda like the holes effect.

I noticed a FF filter called "Singularity" the Free Ellipse component makes the round hole shape. Is there a way to use a selection to determine the shape instead, so I can draw a shape in Photoshop, mask it and use the shape for the hole?

Below I did a really quick and ugly custom shape hole
photoshop mockup of what I'm trying to do using a FF filter

Uber's blobs look rewarding. smile:dgrin:
Anyway anyway, I modified them to work with a custom shape and added some controls. Just replace that "free polygon" with a selection component or whatever you need. Make sure it looks like the free polygon: White shape with a fade-to-black "glow". Does it work?

Here's the best I could do so far adding selection and blur components, not so good now because picture is not really flowing around selection yet

Well since I've not yet made much progress in a selection based version.
I added few controls to the free polygon version. I've found that rounded shapes just work best. In this case I made a five sided poly with rounded corners and the image seems to flow around it well enough. I still need to try more things to get the selection based filter to work right. Thanks Indigo Ray for posting the freepoly version. I had tried to make one of those about a month ago with no luck.

I could maybe try to see what could be done, although really I do not know how to make the displacement but can try

Well, sorry, I have only tried to do it with the first filter shared by CFandM and modified it with more things to try to make it, but it works only with alpha loaded shapes, and not selections, and can´t use the main image load (through menu) because it has by default mirror placement active, and then the scale component included multiplies it.

If load the selection from photoshop it does not work, and loads it into the main image component smile:?:

Also have tried to do stripes with images instead of color and it does not work, because as soon as you load an image, the stripe becomes transparent.

Also loading an image full without any stripes does not work either

Will try and see what can be done with the uberzev or Sphinx versions

Yes I do not know why the photoshop selection is not working with the filter, I have seen that the selection is taken as main image instead of selection when using it as a plugin in photoshop

Will try to use the other alternative filters that are in this thread to see if it can be done in another way
