(I think this is also available to FF 2.0)
As in FF 3.0 you do not have any TEXT component to import and input fonts, letters and text words because you would need vectors
BUT I have thought in a alternative way to be able to import and load font letters into FF 3.0 !! Well they are NOT system fonts like for example Opentype or Truetype. I am refering that it can be OTHER kind of alphabets of fonts letters that is already available in lots of websites on internet. These are called PSD Fonts, or PNG´s fonts. These PSD Fonts are specially designed images in the shape of the alphabet letters you already know. So these are images you can load them without problem inside Filter Forge using the "color control" component allowing for images. BUT this PSD Fonts are NOT keyable fonts, (can be used with the keyboard) they are images with background transparency, so EACH letterform or shape will need to be hand set and composed to make a word. WHAT is good is that there are really fantastic, wonderful and amazing PSD fonts designs and is much more open than System fonts that are ONLY BLACK! For example these are PSD Fonts HoneyComb Alphabet ![]() This other one here is FREE from this website link here ![]() And this is another cheap paid PSD Font High Quality Splashy Letters Alphabet ![]() THESE ARE JUST A VERY FEW OF THE THOUSANDS AVAILABLE IN LOTS OF WEBSITES In the following posts I will put more examples and some website sources Here is how is seen the PNG´s Letters inside Filter Forge editor ![]() |

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT YOU CAN´T SAVE PNG 24 WITH TRANSPARENCY DIRECTLY IN PHOTOSHOP
To be able to save PNG 24 with Transparency included you MUST use the Script "Export Layers to files" available in the "file" menu For this to work right you must have a transparent background, and them compose your words, or standalone letters in layers, and then when ready and finished, you have to use the Script "Export Layers to files" to load the results. You can decide then where to export the files and must select PNG 24 with transparency You decide if you want that Photoshop trims the final image result to cut unused space and keep the image result as tight as possible. Also the trim is good to save words separately, I have made the "Filter Forge" words in the same fle with 2 layers, but when I choose to active "trim" the export layers script will svae each layer separately and cut the unwanted and wasted space to the minimum. YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST 2 LAYERS FOR the Script "Export Layers to files" to work If you have just one layer, then you can add any dummy false layer to fool the script See the screenshot below ![]() |

THE BAD SIDE OF USING PSD (or PNG) FONTS
You can´t use any of this PSD fonts for building a filter and then submit it to the Filter Library, as it will not work because YOU CAN ONLY use the images available from the images built-in library. UPLOAD TO YOUR OWN FILTERS PAGE THE MISSING PSD FONTS OR WORDS BUT there could be a possible alternative, you could make the filter as you can in your computer using words or letters created by you, and then when submitting the filter, change the letters for built-in images of FF. Probably the result will not look BUT you can explain in the about tab, or in the forum page of your filter that you must use the given fonts or letters that you could upload to your own "commnents filters" page and so everyone could use your filter with your own letters or words as you have designed it. ALSO of course that this advice and suggestions here can be used for your own personal and private designs and works and do not need to submit to the FF library. |

I said before that the PSD Fonts need to have transparency, well this is true usually, BUT not ALWAYS, as there are also many other PSD fonts that are full complete images without any transparency
For example this one here below Mechanical Alphabet ![]() AND this is also available as a vector file, and there are other PSD fonts that are made as Vector files, so you can enlarge them as much as you want and then after convert them back to JPG or PNG. ____________________________________________________________________________________ And there is more complex PSD fonts that would never be possible to make in any other way as this one below Alphabet in Fire ![]() _________________________________3D RENDERED PSD FONTS_____________________________ ALso there are MANY fonts that are made with 3D rendering software that are available as PSD, for example this one below is just one of the many more available. Thanks for the great links to the fonts.I can create some PHF fonts with these!
I create PHF fonts for a plugin for Photo Shop "PhotoFont Start" (which i use in Gimp). ![]() Otherwise known as "Photo Fonts". These are also a image font type. http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php...photofonts So if you want a particular font (PHF) created fr om images just tell me wh ere to get the images and i will create them for you. The photofont file format specification is publicly available. It is based on open standards such as XML and PNG. The plugin that runs the fonts is free. You can get it here. Website and information - http://www.fontlab.com/photofont/photofont-start/ Direct downloads for the plugin Windows - http://www.font.to/downloads/demos/PS2Win.exe MAC - http://www.font.to/downloads/demos/PS2MacCS3.hqx It works quite well in Gimp with the PSPI (photoshop plugin initialization), plugin. Image example of a font i just finished for another person.Soon to be released free! ![]() You can also download Xnview FREE and use the plugin in it. ![]() Rod

Actually I'm designing a set of filters that'll process flat images to produce neat little effects. So like you can type something out in Photoshop, rasterize it, then apply the effect and it'll change the fonts to something like you see above.

I can create a animated GIH or Gimp Image Hose brush that can use a path (a shape of a letter), and animate a brush along a path.
This is how i created the GrassyVine font. First i typed some text - then i cleared the fill - then i made a PATH from the selection. This gave me a path to use brush along path. After that i just had to shrink (contract) the selection and keep running the brush along the selection. Soon it was filled in. ![]() ![]() I could easily create a nuts and bolts GIH animated brush to do this also. In fact i think a Python script for Gimp can be written to do this for me.I will have to look into that. ![]() Rod

Thanks for the advice and tips, and this has given me an idea, that probably and perhaps could work (I do not know becuase I have not tried it) and it is that the Corel Paint ShopPro Software also has a hose brush (regretably Photoshop after SO MANY years it is not available yet) and perhaps could be used in the same way, but I do not know if you could fill a shape with the hose brush following a path or a selection in this software. |

I never used Coral Painter before so i do not know if it even has a paths tool.
![]() Gimp has a unique set of path tools. One of which is stroke path with a paintbrush. This includes animated brushes. I am working on a new nuts and bolts image hose now. Howler 7.1 is Dog Waffles new baby. ![]() It has a brush called Orbicles.3-D particles floating (actually animated), around the brush tip.Very cool. I may give that a try also. I received word from Hemera at BMSoftware about Photo Objects. They are sending me a package (cost was 69.05 USD). It contains 25 thousand textures with the PhotoFont Maker included. They have another one they call Big Box of Art which contains 150 thousand images/textures.I didn't buy that one they wanted 89 for it. I will let you know how it works when the cd's arrive.Sadly it comes only by snail mail and no download link so i will have to wait. ![]() Rod

![]() AND what is better is that I have discovered a new and interesting way to make fonts and letters, and not only simple letters, also complete texts using the full text as a mask ![]() And using small objects to fill the texts. |

Hi SpaceRay, you're welcome.
It works with external alphabet. You just need to create an image/layer with the single letter or the whole alphabet or a phrase or whatever you want with white backgroung and black text or inverted. If you're using Photoshop, you can use any font and type it, and need to rasterize the layer/font before use the plugin to make the font become an image and there you go! Just load the transparent images into each "slot" (up to 5), make the fine adjustments, and you're done! The only internal alphabet used is the letter "O", but only when you check the test checkbox, just to test before using any image. So, you can create a large image and type the whole alphabet in a single image and apply the filter at once, making all alphabet letters, numbers and symbols at once. ;0) I hope the FF community enjoy it and I want to see the community creativity! :0) It is a BASIC version, when I get time I'll create the Advanced and Pro version, and off course the community is free to improve it too. :0) |

Hello Lucato, thanks for your answer and explaining it in more detail, BUT I am sorry that I do not see what is, or can be different from the filter of Shape of Things by CFandM that makes the same that you are describing and in the same way to use the external fonts or alphabet.
I think I may be missing something or you have done it in another way, I will see how this is made when it is available in the FF Library |

Hi SpaceRay, I hadn't read all posts here from this thread and had noticed that you had mentioned the Shape Of Things by CFandM. Now after reading your comments above I went to compare them. Really, cool and yes you're right, they are basic the same, but the main difference, I think, is that on mine you don't need to load the main image (mask in Shape Of Things), you can use the actual layer in the graphic software (Photoshop) and other few adjustments as background color and so on. Well, check it by your own and make your conclusion. ;0)
It was already approved. Click here: Fill PhotoFont Basic by Lucato. I'm sorry CFanM, I didn't see they are quite similar idea. |

The las post was In 27 August 2012 when it was expected that Filter Forge 4.0 was going to possibly release VECTOR SUPPORT and therefore also support for Fonts and letters, and it was not included
Now 3 years exactly, as today is August 27 2015 ( at least in Europe time) and we are with beta FF 5.0 and there is still NO news about vector support on FF Would it be possible to have vector support on FF 5.0? Anyway, in his hread I have shown of alternative way to use fonts amd letters inside FF and also in my alphabet filter (thanks to great and amazing alphabet done by ThreeDee) |

i am very sorry I did not answer before to your post, because I have missed it. it does not matter at all that you may have done a filter similar filter to the one made by CFandM, of course you can not know about all the filters in the library, and also as you say, they are not the same, and seems that your may be better in the way that you have said. thanks for making and sharing it The only problem is that I see is not coming from you, but from filter forge, that does not have a non-overlapping feature to be used by the bomber, so then it would be perfect, but it has been said that this will not be included in FF 5.0 |

Of course that I also believe that it will be arriving soon, and I am not in a hurry in any way, and do not care when it will arrive as I am not using FF now and if it did not arrive is only because the FF team could not do it yet, and is better to take time to do it right and well
it depends on what definition is SOON, as there are some places that is put "soon" and then takes 3 months or even more ![]() |
