Neat filter, it is scary when I can look at a filter and know how it works without looking at the inner workings. I really like this filter; however, I don't quite understand why the white lines. When something burns I have never seen these white lines? Also have you considered adding textre to the filter so it isn't 2 dimensional. I don't think that what I said needs to be done, I am just curious of the whys behind this filter. Did you want the white lines, did you want it 2-dimensional, or was it one of those gems you accidentally stumpled upon by trial and error?

All excellent questions and here’s the deal - although I’m a little reluctant to cop to it. As the deadline for earning a copy approaches I feel more and more motivated to submit filters that look even halfway decent in hopes someone will find them usable. I didn’t consider it finished and I wanted to spend more time on it but it was not a core part of what I was working on so I decided to place it online as a placeholder with a pledge to myself to get back to it if I can. On the one hand that seems like a pretty crappy thing to do but in my own defense I honestly do not know how most of these filters are used so I really did think this filter just *may* be useful to someone. Do you think I should take it down? smile:?:

Will do. And one day I, if I get a chance, I am going to come back to it and make it great - I think it has potential. Besides it already has more downloads faster than all but two of my other filters, so someone liked it. All I can say is I am not a good judge of what people are going to like. I wired 'Stretch by Corners' together in about an hour and it has done better in a few days than some of my others have done in months - go figure. smile:|

yup, and now that the warez folks have found us, dont judge ANYTHING by the download count. it's going to be skewed beyond belief.

So funny thing happened, I totally did not even download this filter yet; however, I think I stumbled upon this exact same effect by trying to get scracthes in metal.

Persidio that’s remarkable! smile:D I always wondered how people would use this filter. Thank you for giving me some idea.
I wanted to revisit this filter and make it great but I didn’t have time. Some day I hope to get back to it. smile:)

Hi Ron~

Anyone who uses the filter who doesn't want the right edge burned can easily paint that part out... I kinda liked it though... so... just applied the filter and put the sample up here.

((So glad you like... check your other filters... more samples and still working on making samples now)).

My mouse paintings take a lot of time to make but she holds filters so well that I've decided to model her~ ((Look at your Metamorphosis filter... LOL))

Persidio, I like the way your pic turned out. You know, it reminds me of tags. Man, I sure have tagging on my mind a lot these days. I think it's because of all the possibilities these filters bring.

Ron, this filter looks nice right the way it is; I'm sure people will use it. Like I was saying, I can see this used for tag making definately.

Tags are like calling cards that you add to your emails. People take tubes and make a small picture, then use a really nice font and add the person's name. I posted a tag here a few weeks ago. Let me see if I still have it on my hard drive.

Here is one that was made for a friend of mine.

Hi Ashima~

You are right... would make a great tag filter. I call them siggy's, LOL.

The sample is the default setting for the preset ... lots of different ways to get the burn on the image.

I was making a sig with this rendering of Preset 3... program locked up, but I was going to load Preset 3 as a sample by itself as well so ... here is Preset 3.

I adjusted layering with a transparency of 22 percent .. channeling 'if lighter'.

Were you using PS or PSP for this?

This looks great Persidio - finding other ways to scale back on the burn is a good idea. This is something I should have integrated into the filter from the beginning.

Thank you.

PS, PSP and PI have layer transparency options... and channel options (it's a basic layering technique) smile:D

Duplicate the layer... then apply layer settings on the new layer.. semi-transparency... and channels... The trick is to duplicate the layer...

Scaling back the burn ... adding more presets,,, overall I luvs this filter.. a must have in every filter collection!!!

I still havn't had time to get the siggy done.. and spending time with Revelation tonight... but I'm sure I'll have some time to sneak on my computer and make a siggy,, LOL. Just updated Condensation..

Heading off to shoot my paint program for locking up... smile:D

Here is a sig, three sizes. Quick sigs then going to spend time with Revlation tonight.

I know you like to paint ... so I put some brushes on there for you. Since the base if a mousepainting it seemed to work. Shadowing overwhelmed the image so I left it off... animation too busy for the image... I decided to stay with crisp lines hope you like. ((dont' worry there is a small one))

The first one you can click to view the larger image... the other two are full size already.

Didn't work too bad for a sig... I did notice the image and the filter could have gone many different ways. It's a nice filter for siggys~ smile:D aka Tags~ smile:D

Sorry... could be converted easily to a transparent .gif... it's just a .jpg right now.

Oh Ron doesn't mind~

Okay here's the first one... I selected the white areas (you can do this on any of the presets) (then with the paint dropper filled it in with a dark brown)... after you have the areas as new layer and painted in... apply Preset 3 and you get this...

Click to view larger image~ (Preset 3 adds the apparence of fire when applied to the white area.)

I like the fire.

BTW, how do you get the little pictures (gifs) to be in your posts? I tried pasting them.

For some reason I thought that when my FF trial ended that I would still be able to load filters and play around with them in the editor but just not be able to save anything. I was mistaken. It turns out that at the end of the trial the software is completely disabled so it will not even load. smile:(

Oh, you misunderstood my post completely. I'm the one that asked for a tag and then I made fun of us doing tags here. I was joking about how we took a forum that used to be so strict, on topic, mainly male, and slightly feminized it. No jealousy here at all.

Oh Ahimsa... you know what, I think the stress of last weekend had a terrible tole on us all. But if it's not that, go read what I just told Persidio in her thread in the User Gallery under Photo Edging Masks 2: http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...#nav_start

You can see where we were teasing and being silly, and then all of a sudden yesterday I felt somehow I must have said the wrong thing in the wrong way, even though I was joking around, and had to set things straight... if not for her then for me. Read both pages if you don't mind.

Anyway, a little thing I noticed, even from their remarks about us girls liking to use smileyes... guys don't very often seem to. There's a good reason forums and chat rooms have them though, because we can't express with body language what we are saying was meant to be taken a totally different way, either seriously or in a light-hearted way. GUYS NEED TO USE SMILEYS! smile:D ... well, it would help and it wont hurt either smile;)

The misunderstanding came from ron posting "jealous?" to what I said. No, I'm not jealous and it was equal to me saying you and I are smiley pirates. I wasn't accusing you of a theif and you understood I was joking and you had fun with it. It was meant as a joke between Persidio and myself for how we have both changed a few things around here and it was meant as a joke when I said, do you think that WE are maybe pushing it too far. It was just a joke that no one got so just forget it.

My ‘jealous?’ crack was meant as a joke in the sense that ‘us guys’ were getting to do both – macho and pretties – but I could think of no way to tighten it up without saying something as clunky as this sentence – and I am still not sure if this is working. smile:?: Sorry about the ambiguous comment. It is not the only one I made today.

Ahimsa, I understood right away what you meant and what you saw with Ron's one-word comment. I only wanted to share with you my own experience too so you didn't feel left out or alone.

Ron, just use a smilely, it can't hurt, and that's what they are for. Saying the word 'jealous' to a woman is like... well, never mind smile;)
But anyway, Ahimsa used smileys to indicate what she was feeling when saying that, you didn't, not a huge deal of course, but will save a lot of time for us 'gals' trying to figure out if what you 'guys' say is a joke or serious. Again, no problem. Family and friends always have little kinks to work out, why they stay as family and friends smile;)

It's hard to know what people actually mean when they write certain things until you know them really well. Until then, smilies are very important. Smilies are as close as we get to showing the other person our facial expression and intent at the time.

Ron started the day after I did and he was the first one I spoke to on FF. He's really nice,, promise.

And he just got locked out of FF... so propably is going thru withdrawls as he waits on his HU's. I wanted to put some samples up to show how great his filters are.

You mean the smilies? Right click and save to your harddrive, then load thru the attach file.

Or if you mean the tag images... load your tag/sigs from your harddrive to the attach a file. Not sure what you mean if it's not one of those two~ smile:D
