WOW!!! WOW!! I can´t believe you have finally released this filter that you had in your Lab some time ago and that I did fall in love with it, but supossed and thought that this was just a private project, and NOW IS IN THE LIBRARY !!!
Excellent, and very well done, love how the mercury drops are configured from the source image and they look breathtaking for me and amazing textures can be done.
Love it. Thanks very much for uploading this great filter.
Just one little suggestion, I think would be good to change the name to Mercury Droplets.

And is good that you can use black as a mask and is good to have this, although I wonder if there could be possibly an option to have black mercury drops if you want?

This kind of awesome filter is what really makes Filter Forge worthy and I can override many of the bad things of FF, specially the speed, and look more at GREAT AND EXCELLENT things that can be done when someone makes filters with such quality and excellence like this one

Also by filling the surroundings where you do not want to have drops, you can mask it with black and then isolate the thing you want to have.

Skybase in the filter description
If this filter runs a bit slow, you can bypass some of the heavy post effects by pressing "boring mode." |
WHAT IS THE BORING MODE ?
One question I want to make is what really is the Boring Mode in the filter, I mean what it does and what is the effect when this is activated ? What is taken out ?
I do not see much difference in quality when this is active or not.
DIFUSSE CHANNEL?
Quote |
---|
Additinally if you just view the diffuse channel, you can preview how the dots will be placed before the full render.
|
Sorry to ask what seems to be something probably basic, but where can I see the diffuse channel ?

The diffuse channel is essentially the color of any surface filter. The general purpose (as described) is basically so you can export color data without the height or reflection data for usage in other programs like Maya. But because we're also not taking into account the lighting for the diffuse map, we're basically bypassing that which gives us a nice way to preview stuff before hand.
You can access the diffuse data fr om the following menu: filter > render maps > diffuse map.
Boring Mode bypasses 2 key nodes: the blur and median blend which basically connects the the droplets together. It visually won't look as different when the droplet sizes are small, wh ere blending is turned down. But you can see the effect of it when you max out the param "Blending Radius" since the check box basically bypasses that. The screenshot below displays the diffuse channel so you can easily see what's happening.
And it's boring because there's nothing cool happening Just the bomber doing stuff the bomber does all the time.

Thanks for the tip of using the diffuse map to see how the dots will be placed before the full render as this is faster to see a preview as the result is unexpected and do not sure if it will be what you want, so is very good that you can see it this way too until you see it right.
---------------------------
Here is another example that I wanted to make like a fountain of mercury and is very good to be able to mask the surroundings painting all black and then preview how will it look with the difusse map so the dots are not too big, too separate, or too small, and are also some near enough to be joined like metaballs when render.
Really like much the result and love how the drops are shaded and the color applied so well

YES, Sorry, is true that I should have searched there, and is curious that I have never seen this render maps menu until now , as I have never used it as I did not need it until now
