I'm half-surprised no one has submitted another coral filter. Then again, there's probably lots of coral and whatnot hidden in the forums or on other people's pc's. Interesting job on the color. smile:)

i've got a couple coral filters, but never submitted.

this one doesnt really look that much like coral, to me. it looks more like rusty, corroded metal with bullet dings in it. (and no, i'm not trying to be a ssmart-ass here. that's what it looks like to me).

View it as you like, but I myself was disappointed to find nothing on filter forge that would work for the coral reefs in a 3d scene I am building.

I laughed at that. If that came from anyone other than a texture artist, then it would be very smart-ass. smile;)

silvertwist,

you're absolutely right about there not being any coral filters. and i was absolutely wrong about having a couple, myself. lol. sorry. i have one and it was quite unfinished.

also, my comment from yesterday was based entirely on the default image. it does look metallic to me. but, you do have some other presets that dont and which look better, more like coral. #4, 5, and 6 are where i'd concentrate. the default, #1 and 2 all look too metallic, to me. maybe lower the reflectivity?

and indigo, i know. i probably shld have buffered that comment a bit smile:)

here's a couple ideas for you, silvertwist. perlin, perlin, perlin and the filter, 'shark tank'. i'm posting an example of a perlin noise made to look a bit like coral, at least, one type of coral.

I'm not offended or anything by the preset looking as if it is corroded metal. Like most filters here, it is a view as you see it- not what title of the filter says. I've used many filters here for other purposes than what their titles says they are.

And yes the default preset looks metallic and fake looking. Kind of reminds me of those fake plastic assets you put into a fish tank. I'll take a look into the shark tank filter and see if I can improve my filter.

Thanks for the suggestion.

silvertwist,

glad you're not offended.

i've been playing with the whole coral idea again, thanks to you, and i'm posting some stuff over in this thread: http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...PAGEN_1=20 . i dont want to hijack your filter thread here.
