Oh Lynn, We are so lucky to have a 'world class' Zoo in our city.

Unfortnatly on this trip I had a 'new to me' digital camera... so I did lose some nice shots. This one is going back tonight--------> HP417 Digital (I don't reccomend).

The guy at the Rent place sent this one home with hubby for me... was the only one they had at the moment, but said if I didn't like it I could come look thru the catalog. (Can't afford not to rent to buy so... going in tonight to see what else they have).

I miss my Sony Digital which hubby hocked without my permission. Now it's gone... LOL. That's okay because he promised he'd never hock (pawn shop) my camera again. Anyway... I did end up getting some nice photos but this is propably the grainest digital camera I've ever used.

What kind of digital are you using for your wonderful photos? I'd love to know.

Hugs

Jean

Hi Lynn~

Well we went yesterday, then out for Chinese Food. They only had one camera in their catalog and also a Sony in the store. I asked about better cameras but they said they don't carry any 'high end' cameras. After asking for the one in the catelog they said they would have it brought over to the store (brand new not used).

They just dropped it by the house tonight ... new, case, battery charger, memory card, the whole kit. (((Havn't had a chance to try it yet))).

However it is a Canon A460 'PowerShot'. 5 Megapixels I think... not too bad not too great... can't wait to try it out. http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Powershot...B000N9AXDW

Oh... off topic... but I did a stupid thing tonight... posted a preview for my lastest filter and accidentally put it in the Comments Forum. I've already emailed from the comments area begging for them to move the thread. (Sapphire A preview) is the name of the filter.

Back on topic... your photos are amazing. What kind of camera would you consider getting for your upgrade? Sooner or later I'll want to upgrade from the Canon Powershot, I know that already, LOL. Still can't wait to try it out though.

Hugs,

Jean

I have 3 cameras I have been eyeing and none of them are cheap. I am wanting to step up to an SLR camera like Canon Digital Rebel XT 8MP Digital SLR Camera ,
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Digital-R...544&sr=1-1

Nikon D40x 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Digital-1...986&sr=8-1

I checked out the link to the camera that you had in the post, it don't look like an bad camera. But it would be something I wouldn't buy for myself. I never will buy and metal color camera, I prefer an black body camera. But I am interested in the photo quilty . I think this would make a great camera for my mom for xmas.

What are you looking for in an camera? Hubby wake in while I was looking at the caamera you gotten and said wanting a new camera already lol I held my bearth and told him not yet. I told him I need an wacom table first.

Back on topic... your photos are amazing
Thank you very much Jean, I have taken alot of photos from my backyard. I have been blessed with the wildlife that does come in our back yard. I am hope to see more once the froggie pond is rebuild and the area planted with the right plants and bushes.

smile:ff: Been wanting one of those for years!!! Good choice! Camera upgrades can wait... wacom tablet comes first~ smile;)

You know the Canon looks sharp and 8 MP's sure get my attention. But WOW can't beat Nikon's 10.2 MP's. Very nice camera's.

TY for the compliments on the one I just got... honestly I know I'll have to upgrade it... have plans to give it to my daughter when I do. For now looks like my mainstay camera for the next few years.

The wild life in your backyard is amazing. You should have it declared a 'habitat' if you don't already.

Well right now just something affordable to get by. Or should I say anything but the HP! LOL smile:D

My backyard is registered with the wildlife federation as an wild life habitat, it hasn't gotten the certificate for it yet. Mostly in my backyard is reptiles that you need an keen eye to spot them. A lot of different birds that I feed, and have a couple of bird houses for them. I plan on getting the certificate after I get the froggie pond rebuilt and planted.
I would like to get a couple of butterfly bushes and some plants that humming birds love. It will take me awhile to whip that backyard into shape.
I hope you will like your new camera, can't wait to hear what you think of it.

That does not suprise me. Kind of figured you were registered.

Last year I was thinking about getting ours listed as a habitat (not this year... because I havn't worked outside like I normally do). Truth be told that's how I normally stay in shape----> tons of yard work. This year... fat and happy, LOL and skipped on the yard detail.

If I whipped the yard back in shape for next year I could list it for birds and butterflys however I'm missing one or two plants. That's it. Just a few plants. smile:D I'll have to look into it again next year. I have a lot of work to do outside before I attempt to have it listed. ((Looks bad this year in comparision)).

A hummingbird habitat would be great if you can draw them. Trumpet vine is one that hummingbirds like. That's the first one that pops into mind, but there are several other plants they like. You would think four oclocks would work but I have a ton of those and never have any hummingbirds.

For birds I have two doves,,, a cardinal couple, blue jays, American robins, regular birds and ... a rare yellow group that only wants the sunflowers when I grow them in mass (didn't do that this year... just a few sparatic ones that came up from seed on their own... the squirrels missed a few). Oh my squirrels... red haired and an additude to match... they like to shake their tail. LOL In fact they have been known to do this to people who visit. Guard squirrels. smile:D

For butterflys I have Monarchs and a black giant. The Monarchs are here this year, not as many and no giant this year. I do have flowers this year but they are my prennials... I didn't do annuals. Plus I need to weed. Do you weed your habitat or do you let it naturalize? That's a good word,, this year my yard is 'naturalized'. The Monarchs are great for my daughter because there are stickers you can get to tag them before they take their journey to Mexico. So we can catch and tag Monarchs in the yard.

Oh by the way.. Sample 4 is Amazing!!!! smile:D smile:D smile:D

I have 4 0clocks in the front yard around the mail box. I never seen an humming bird around them either. Last year I had 2 feeders up for them, and I didn't put them up this year. I had to make sure that they were not in eye sight of each other sine the hummimgbirds that came to feed from them are Ruby-throated Hummingbirdand they are very aggressive territoriality. That is why I would like to have an butterfly bush, to let the other male to have an change at getting something to eat.
As far as birds, we have morning doves, a pair of cardinals, house sparrow, wrens, a pair of bluebirds, red headed woodpecker, nuthactches, robins, titmouse, chicadee, blue jays and a few others.

This year I seen a pair of baltimore orioles at the feeder.
We have gray squrrels in our area, and the are alot smaller than the red squrrel I am used to seeing.
Do you weed your habitat or do you let it naturalize?
I have serval area in my yard that never get weeded, I call it my weed beds. In the early spring there is wild strawberries growing , before the native weeds take over and block out the strawberries. The way I have the habbitat set up there is no weeding to be done since I laid down weed block.
Since we have the 2 ponds we attact alot of dragonflies & damselflies . When ever I an in the backyard I normally have at least one draginfly following me all over the backyard lol
I didn't plant any thing in my garden this year, the only thing I got planted was in the bog area of the pond. I bought an minture cat tail and some water lettuce for the main pond, but I ended up putting the water lettuce in the frog pond along with a few water water hyacinth.

How do you tag the butterflies?
thank you for the comment

Not sure what kind of doves they are... hummm... hubby has a bird book so I do need to do some research.

chicadee's and house wrens, lots of those... yep... woodpeckers we have in the area... not sure what kind and I don't seem to get any woodpeckers in the yard.

Wish I knew what kind of bird those beautiful yellow ones are. I'll have to do more research on birds,,, hubby might know and he's posting here now. However he's out of state till this evening. Business trip.

We have some black squirrels in the area but ... the red ones seem to own the yard. In the spring when I plant corn or sunflower seeds they will watch me put the seeds in the ground. As soon as I leave they will dig up the seeds in a perfect line and eat them. To grab seeds for next year from the sunflowers I have to get the seed heads before the squirrels do. Fast little pests~ smile:D

The cattails, water lettuce and water hyacinth sound beautiful!

Oh the butterflys... is a sticker just catch with a net like you normally would. I can get stickers from a third grade teacher at my daughters school. Next year she will be in 4th grade.

Here is a web site that shows where the sticker/tag goes.
