I want my own dedicated thread for experiments too smile:)

I'm currently back at the mandelbrot renderings, this time for a cd cover project.

This one is from a screenshot of a frozen 6000x3000 rendering process (When the AA process kicked in, something went wrong and it just stopped at 80% or so).

I'm trying out different renderings to show the client, but will probably end up with the main idea: the pattern like in this one will be clear shiny lacquer on black matt paint.

cool smile:)

and forgive my asking, but why do you need a 6000 x 3000 render for a cd cover?

First of all to get a nice result (the offset press I'm working with can handle up to 600 dpi), but also to have enough resolution "freedom" for different placements etc during design phase...

Recently I've been focused on simplicity in filter construction.

The new "Free" pattern components with positioning (Origin X, Y) make it possible to create some interesting repeating patterns with variations:

Here are some renderings made with this concept (only 5 components):

..and the additional bonus of the simplicity here is rendering time. These renders extremely fast, even with high AA settings. No bombers, no bitmap based components, no transformations etc.. just a custom Origin X and Origin Y input smile:-)

A few more using same technique, just different Origin X,Y modifiers:

The interesting thing is that all these are created mainly with just one Free Polygon (with different gradients plugged into Origin X,Y and Rotation)

Nice stuff, Sphinx, I like how organic they are. This is a great way to make fast patterns.

I like these 3d ones, and I like the simple ones as well. Pattern 02 looks like a chain of people. I'll check out the filter to see what I can add.
