Alrighty!!!

Getting the branches to come off of the main bolt like tree roots is going to be the key to realistic lightning.....and once you have that, you've got realistic trees as well.....

#3 (with some tweaks) looks pretty interesting, still kind of "washed out" looking contrast-wise a bit, but interesting none the less.

yup. i've got a number of attempts plus the stuff that carl sent me and the closest i've been able to get so far is in the examples posted in this thread.

lol, jffe. i really do want to publish the storm clouds filter, but am still waiting on FF inc. or some other incentive. i actually had a good idea, or thought it was for an incentive, but not sure now. it's essentially done, except for a good lightning. i'll tell ya what, here was the idea i had for an incentive on publishing again. FF Pro sells for $300 u.s. It takes 3 HU filters to win FF Pro for free. that essentially means that as a base price, an HU filter is worth $100... base price. we authors that have earned extra HU's over and above the 3 to get the Pro version and the extra 5 for lifetime updates, have HU's we cant really spend. so, what if instead of spending them, we sold them? one HU shld be worth $100, but no one is going to pay us $100 for one when they can spend it with FF. wouldnt make any sense. but, if we reduced the price on an HU and sold them, and undersold the discounted price (when FF has the discount), it shld be possible. it's a commodity. it has worth. and it's not doing the authors any good to just sit there. so, what if i, or any author, offered 3 HU's for sale? heck, you could probably even auction them on e-bay. i'm not sure what someone might pay, but surely half off the retail price would be a pretty good deal, no?

now, i totally blame steve for this idea i put it together from him giving his HU's away to that last person. it just suddenly clicked! oh, we could sell HU's! but, like a lot of my ideas, it seems good at first and then when i think about it for a while, it seems kind of odd. at any rate, it's a thought and was why i told steve i thought i'd be publishing the clouds filter soon. now, i'm not so sure.

well, i wouldnt want to try to make a living off of it, but as an incentive to publish more filters, even if it's only a hobby, i, or someone else, might not feel so ripped off, particularly in light of the freebie texture re-selling.
