ROFL... I'm going to have a lot of fun with this one... couldn't help but test this little idea out immediately! Looks like a fantasy-type sword generator might be feasible after all! This is just a very early proof of concept, but I'll be posting more on the progress... ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

Looks great, Dilla! Don't know about Your next plans on it, but can say, what I need !!!ESPECIALLY!!! at this moment - REALISTIC BLADE TEXTURES. With scrathces, blood, damage and so on. I need it for hatchets, swords, axes and other weapons for 3D project. D'U have something in plans like this? It can be guaranteed HU from me as minimum.
We'll do BODIES before! |

Well, I can't promise anything. Developing this one to work reliably with randomization and developing all the different looks for hilts, handles etc. will take time. But yes, eventually I plan to have realistic sword textures with functioning height maps. Scratches, blood, chips, rust will all be there... --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

i'm curious, though, dilla; why not use TD's lathe snippet/filter for making these? or, are you?

I love the hilt a lot! I'm just not sure why the blade is all curvy like that...
I guess it makes it look more fantasy-like...in fact, a real sword, besides being straight, doesn't have a single line down the middle of the blade like yours does. Most have two lines down the sides that converge at the tip of the blade. But your version is still cool anyway And as an added option: Hilt-to-blade ratio? You can't use a sword if you can't pick it up... |

That's because it's a fantastic "Blade of Legend". You wouldn't think they are straight and boring, would you?
Yup, I know, real blades have sort of a rounded groove running down the middle of the entire blade. That one's gonna be there too, just didn't get around to introduce it yet.
Already planned. But... since I'm going for a fantasy theme here, expect some seriously top-heavy blades! --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

Well, I can always keep the filter to myself, eh?!
Because it is not necessary. I'm using profile gradients, profile gradients and some profile gradients here, plus maybe some curves. --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

you can map most anything with profile gradients, tone curves and curves. you could probably draw the mona lisa with them

The *mixing* of the textures is what impressed me, that and having them all line up properly down the center 'line' of the screen. It's cool stuff, nothing I'd want, but it is always a bummer when something that interesting looking just fades away. If nothing else, I'd open it up and maybe learn half a new trick for my own purposes, and really, that's as good as a filter I can just use from the get go eh.
