In this thread I'll answer questions about multiple source image support in FF3.0.

You can load all image formats supported by Filter Forge: BMP, JPEG, TIFF, TGA, PNG, OpenEXR and PFM. Transparency, HDR and floating-point colors are fully supported. |

Images can be of any size and resolution, no need to match the resolution of the main source image. After you loaded an image into a color control, you can adjust its placement method in the Image Placement dialog which appears when you click the image thumbnail: ![]() |

Thanks very much Vladimir for the answer and giving the Article bomber filter (by the way I could NOT download the ffxml file with IE 9, I needed to use Chrome to download it as a Filter forge file and then import it in FF through locate file.
I can´t thank you enough for creating this REALLY very interesting and highly useful and wonderful feature and this Article bomber filter that gets an awesome and impressive result when used with different kind of images in the 5 particles control. Thanks a million for this feature of having multiple images, you do not know it, BUT i have been already 3 YEARS looking all through internet for a software that could be able to make something like this that can be made now with Article Bomber filter, I could never imagine that my loved and great Filter Forge software would be able in the future (well, now present) would help me get what I was looking for in so much time. The nearest thing I found was in 2010 the Shape Collage software that lets you choose all the images you want and the make a multiple image collage and what is really good that this collage can be exported as PSD layers to Photoshop so you could move, modifify and tweak each one of the images. www.shapecollage.com |

WOW, this is realy great so you can load any kind of files that FF support, which is much better than ShapeCollage that support only a few limited. So with multiple image formats available you can mix many kind of images in different formats within the same texture creation which is great.
So adding to the above is also possible to mix ANY kind of size of resolution and no need to even match the main source image so with this two it really opens a very wide world of possibilities and gives a great powerful potential for image creations. AND whaat is even better that I have seen after testing the Article Bomber filter is that the multiple images are Resized according to the size of main image, so if you have a 12000 x 12000 the multiple particle images are resized bigger IF the original resolutiion and size of the original photo allows this. If you change it to 6000x6000 or 3000x3000 all the particle images are reduced according to this new canvas size. And if it was not enough, you can even then also resize yourself the images in the settings !!! Although all the particles must be at the same size and can not be modified individually. |

Well, I can't right click (only have a laptop, no mouse), but I did figure out where to locate files. I had initially put them in that folder but did not see the folder listed in FF. So I tried it again. Still can't find it. What is it called in the FF list and what category is it under?

Ellie, to locate the directory where FF stores a filter, select it and press Ctrl+L under Windows or Cmd+L under Mac (or simply chose Filter > Locate File from the main menu).

I know, I said I did figure out where to locate the files. And I placed the file in the folder. For me, on my Mac, it's in:
home > Library > Application Support > Filter Forge 3 > System > Library My question now is, what is it called, and what category of files is it under? You know, in the FF window... Creative? Misc? I can't find it. |

Here's a screenshot of what I'm referring to. The Article Bomber.ffxml filter should appear somewhere in the list of filters in the screenshot. It should be in some category. But it isn't. I searched for it too, both under article and bomber. It does not appear.
What am I not understanding about this? ![]() |

OK, I'm guessing that this is a bug along with the fact that FF doesn't even load in the Filter menu in Photoshop CS3?
If it's not a bug, can someone help me? |

OK, very frustrated, I started examining these library files, opening them up in BBEdit, to see if there was something intrinsically different between the Article Bomber.ffxml and the other Library_###-#.ffxml files. Then I realized that the Article Bomber.ffxml file was actually named Article Bomber.ffxml.xml. I certainly didn't name it that, I don't know if it got named that automatically when I downloaded it or what. So I deleted the .xml. Then when I reloaded FF3 again, it told me something like Article Bomber.ffxml does not belong in the library and to move it to My Filters folder. There was no My Filters folder. I created one. I put the Article Bomber in there, and then when I navigate to the My Filters, it now comes up.
So I guess you guys on Windows don't have a My Filters folder or something? Guess it works totally differently on Windows? Because it seemed like a very simple solution, once one knew how to remedy it. |

It would be very useful if you somehow could add options for retrieving average color, max. and min level from image controls..

I suggest a new special component in the External category, perhaps named "Image Properties" or "Image Statistics". The component does not have the standard source map input, but a select/drop down box, where you can select a pre-existing Color Control source (by name); it also contains another drop down wh ere you select the given property/statistic you wish to "extract" (i.e. average, min. level, max. level). This solution would make it easy to support other types of statistical outputs too.. Additional properties related to the given output type (e.g. cutoff for min./max. level) can be activated dynamically (like the behavior of Color Controls "Default Source"). |
