So this is part 1 of the entire series. As a first tutorial, this entire video is extremely basic and just explains how stuff works. It does not go over any "dos or don'ts" and limitations. Please take a look at those on the features page. I plan to go over more details regarding that in the next coming tutorial, including introduction to nested loops and methods. Enjoy!

Thanks Skybase. I love the tut. I knew so little about the loop and you have given me the very basics in clear detail. I will enjoy playing with it now. Can't wait for the next lesson.

Hopefully I'm not getting concepts wrong in that video. Most of the things are kinda generalized so I have a feeling there might be little bad areas. If there happens to be some problem I'll just fix it somehow.

I have finally have seen this video tutorial and like how you have done it and explain it more how to use the different parts of the Loop component and some example of what can be done.
It is always good to learn from and expert and great filter forger like you, and you know how to explain things right Thanks very much for making and hope that you can make part 2 whenever you can and want. |

I have seen again your well done and easy to understand Loop video tutorial, and you know right how to explain things.
This was 3 months ago, and I wonder if you have any plan to make part 2 sometime in the future, and in no way I am requesting to make it now, just and only whenever you can and want to make it, there is no urgency. As there is no more information from the FF team who is the ones that should give all the related information about this new component and all (or at least the most frequent and possible) the ways this new loops could be used, is really useful to know more how to use it better from a skilled and professional person like that is kind to share your knowledge with others and also that you know well how to do it. I think the loops component hides a lot of usefulness, and can be used in many different ways, considering it has multiple parts and slave components that adds more possible ways to use it, but I think that for many FF users it looks intimidating and does not know how to really combine the Loop with the slave components to get advanced things that could be possible now thanks to this new component, that before was very difficult, or tiresome, or impossible to do. Thanks very much |

Good news that you still are going to do it, does not matter when, as I have said you can do it whenever you can and want and feel inspired to do it, and I know that want to do it very well and right, so do not worry I can wait all the time you need, is not urgent at all.

Sorry to bother you again, and bump this 3 year old thread, but I remembered it again from this thread and wanted to know if you still will make part 2 of this very good and useful Loops tutorial or not?
I do not care when you make it, and of course and surely there is no urgency and you can make it whenever you can and want, and have some free time, just to know that sometime in the future this could happen, or do not have any hope about it? Of course that you are totally free to do it or not, and I would never ever force you in any way to do it if you do not want, it is up to you, and I agree with whatever you may decide You are explaining this very well, and like much how you do it, and of course you are very experienced with FF and know well how to make things and use components in FF
This quote is from Anybody interested in a loops tutorial? Thanks anyway for helping so much to all the FF community |

I probably won't make it at this rate. It's too much work. Over all no promises.

lol man... the thing I noticed is that no matter how hard I try to put words into things you guys don't understand, I myself can't seem to touch base with the extremely abstract concepts of FilterForge. When I try putting it down in writing, it kinda escapes me because I just don't think I'm doing a good job trying to give you the human-readable explanation.
I think my approach to FilterForge is not so much about "technical" the thing, it's more like "damn, that worked pretty nicely". Kinda like how Jazz musicians might have chord progressions outlined on a staff sheet but make up stuff as they go along. I really do make stuff by just experimentation and seeing results along the way. I guess to some degree I'm thinking like a 5 year old kid who keeps on trying new things like putting stuff in your mouth and discovering how bad it tastes. Or like how you might run into something and get hurt and you know that if you do dumb things you'll get hurt. It's like that. There's an underlying experimentation that helps you understand something and THAT's missing from a tutorial. My struggle is, how do I make that understandable to a person who knows nothing about it. How do I tell people "stop worrying about the tech, start thinking about art." How do I teach people to stop thinking about things that don't matter, start experimenting and think freely instead of getting caught up in a tiny ditch. Sorry for being such a downer lol. It's a real struggle sometimes. |

...damn... nice, man. I feel a little guilty now, of emphasizing "tech" too much on these forums (and off the computer as well). I mean, the best way to gain technical expertise is through experimentation, right?

I could not agree more. I have given up on tutorials or even trying to explain how my filters work. When you have been doing programming and art as long as I have, a kind of short hand develops that is difficult to put on paper or video. I find that putting out snippets is the best way to get ideas across. BTW, damn fine work on vimeo Skybase! Loved the waveforms on the triangle. Math meets art meets psychedelia. |
