The new Color Control is confusing in one regard:

Clicking the control preview square in solid color mode brings up the colorpicker. Clicking the same square in image mode brings up a settings dialog and not an image picker dialog. That is rather confusing.

I suggest putting an "Image Settings" option in the context pop up menu where you currently load the image, and change the preview square behaviour to some sort of "picker" functionality - or at least put load / choose image options in that settings dialog.

Another inconsistent behaviour: right-clicking the preview square in a solid color Color Control, brings up the Copy/Paste menu. This is not working when an image is used.

Yes, it's definitely an inconsistent behaviour.
We bear it in mind but we've decided to release the context menu for new controls later.

Found another more critical inconsistency (could be considered a small bug):

When Color Control is in solid color mode (color picker), and you bring up the color picker dialog and clicks cancel, the image is not re-rendered since nothing has changed.

But when the Color Control is in image mode and you bring up the settings dialog (by clicking the small image preview square), cancelling the dialog forces unnecessary re-rendering! Nothing was changed, so no need to re-render...

You're right. I'll put it on my task list.
