I've just upgraded to a new computer and I've loaded FF onto it. I'd like to migrate all the filters that I've already downloaded on my old computer over to my new one. Which files should I move over to accomplish this?

Also, under 'My Filters' is there a way to remove the filters that I don't want to see from that list without permanently deleting those filters?

Btw, I'm on a Mac if that makes a difference in the folder structure.

Thanks,
LeoLion <rawr>

You need to copy the following folder from your old machine onto the new one:
~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 2/

This will transfer all filters (library and user) and settings.
Unfortunately there's no way to hide filters without deleting.

I've already loaded the FF2 app onto the new machine and have placed it into the ~Plugins/Filters folder to make it work with CS5. Also removed the 'Filter Forge 2 ppc.plugin' file that needed to be deleted.

When I take the FF2 folder fr om ~/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 2/ that you mention from my old computer wh ere exactly will I be placing it in the folder structure to keep it working within CS?

Also, will I need to delete any more files (like the 'Filter Forge 2 ppc.plugin') from that folder?

Many thanks in advance,

I'm not sure I understand your question. You need to copy the 'Filter Forge 2' folder into ~/Library/Application Support/ on the new computer. Nothing needs to be deleted in this case.

You need to copy the contents of %APPDATA%\Filter Forge\ .

In XP, it is C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Filter Forge, in Windows 7 it is somewhere in C:\Users\.

I have already re-downloaded FF2 and FF3 on my new pc from the site. But it is the trial version and I cannot enter my key. I think that I have to wait the final 30 days of the trial.

How can I do to get registered if I do not want to wait 26 daays smile:?:

Thanks a lot GMM ! It is ok now. I will remember for the next time.

Can I ask you something else ? There is no AppData in window 7. I have saved all filters of my library in "My documents". You know... \System\Library\... where I have near 4000 filters. Do I have to copy and paste all in my "Programs Files (x86)\Filterforge2\System|\Library" ??? Also, Do I have to copy-paste all the other files of my Filterforge2 parked in the folder "AppData..." ? or just my filters smile:?:

Thanks in advance for responding me.

Have a nice week smile;)

There is Appdata in Windows 7. The location you're looking for is
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Filter Forge 2\System\Library\.

Yes, if you want to transfer all the program settings. If you just want the filters, you need the System\Library\ folder only.

Ok thanks !

My folder App\Data was hidden. Now it is resolved.

One question : where I must save my library ? Do I have to copy and paste all my filters in the folder "Cache" or "Library" in FF2 in Program Files x86 ? Or in the folder "Cache" in the folder "App Data" ?

Thanks to you.

I suggest you don't tinker with the 'Program Files' folder, generally it is not user-serviceable. All user-related settings, filters etc are stored in C:\Users\username\AppData.

This is for Windows XP users -
I have found the best way to move files from one system to another is to first zip the entire Filter Forge 2 folder located in application data folder, and place it on a flash drive.
Now just plug in the drive to your new machine and unzip the contents to the Application Data folder on the new machine.
As Ghislaine said you may have to go to Tools/Folder Options/View and then select view hidden folders - image example, to view the Application Data folder itself.

I want to thanks very much to GMM for the advice on how to backup and move filters from one computer to another.

I have upgraded my computer and installed again Windows 7 from zero.

BUT BEFORE I copied all the contents of %APPDATA%\Filter Forge from the previous Winodws and stored it in a new hard drive partition outside of C:

I want to thank for the excellent shortcut %APPDATA%\Filter Forge that you paste in the start icon box at the bottom, and it takes you DIRECTLY TO THAT FOLDER !!! EVEN if this is invisible and hidden from view in windows, it does not matter you will be able to see it and copy all from this folder.

AFTER INSTALLING WINDOWS 7 AND FILTER FORGE

When I finished installing both, I just went in the windows explorer to the filter forge folder I make the backup from the old windows, and then again use the magical %APPDATA%\Filter Forge to find the new filter forge installation and then you paste the old folder into the new folder and tell windows to replace ALL the files.

Start again Filter Forge AND WOW !! Everything is now THE SAME AS BEFORE !!! Lovely.

I have again all my Filters and everything as it was before and so this is great and works very well and is very easy to do and I had not any problems doing it.
