I got the attached error message when trying to start the filter editor. After I got the error, I tried to start the editor again, and it started with now problems.

Also, I checked, and my C: drive only has 500 megs of free space. I am running Filter Force on my D: drive (with 15 gigs of free space) And my Windows page file does not use C: But Filter Forge does store its XML (and possibly other files) on my C: drive. I don't know if there is a connection, but I thought I would mention this.

Yes, Filter Forge currently has no means of customization locations for storing temporary files (not unlike Photoshop scratch file) on disks other than system (in fact, we use the system-configured temporary folders for that).

We're considering adding ability to specify the temporary location (filters and settings are stored in your profile, but they take only several megabytes of disk space, so this isn't a problem).

Unfortunately, the bug you encounter has nothing to do with free disk space -- it's a major resource leak that we're exploiting right now. Looks like it occurs after a long sessions with Filter Forge, but we currently don't know exact reasons.

Nevertheless, we'll fix it sooner or later smile;)

I've had that too, and after only about 10 minutes! I'm "only" running it in 256MB, but it managed to crash with only half that used.

Filter Forge is designed to occupy no more than half of total physical memory (plus a relatively small constant value). The problem you have is not associated with disk space or memory availability -- this is entirely different leak, which is already fixed (not yet tested, though). The fix is scheduled to appear in the next beta release.

( Note: Sorry for bumping an old post but this is what comes up when I Google the problem. )

This is some kind of permissions problem, one thing is being run as administrator in Vista and the other is being run in user mode. This seems to happen every single time I update Filter Forge.

First Method:
----------------

1. The objective is to run Firefox in Administrator mode and get a filter to work.
2. Close Firefox, but somehow save these instructions if necessary.
3. Right click the Firefox icon and select properties.
4. On the tabs at the top select "Compatibility"
5. In the box at the bottom that says "Privilege Level" check the box that says "Run this as an administrator"
6. Start up Firefox and open a filter from Filterforge.com, if this works, it is now fixed.
7. Disable the Administrator mode in Firefox's shortcut after it works once, it should be fixed at least until the next Filter Forge update.

Note: It is generally a very bad idea to run Firefox in Administrator mode as it gives hackers an edge to break into your computer, so make sure it is turned off once Filter Forge works.

Second Method:
----------------
The other method I did to fix it, that doesn't need to use Administrator privileges, but it is quite tedious and will nuke Firefox's settings and bookmarks.

WARNING: obviously back your bookmarks up, please don't blame me, you've been informed!!

1. Totally uninstall Firefox, including bookmarks and any personal settings.
2. Totally uninstall Filter Forge, yes scary I know but it left all my filters in tact, should back those up occasionally as well but that's not necessary at the moment.
3. Install Firefox, and then Install Filter Forge after it.
4. It should work now, but Firefox is totally nuked of it's bookmarks and settings.
