Why does the program have to first render the result to the screen, re-render it when saving, then re-render it back to the screen again??? These re-renders seem to be totally unnecessary... Why can't the progam cache the original render and just re-display it after the save...instead of re-running the image again??? Further, since the original result is displayed at 100%...why can't it be used as the saved result at 100% ??? It seems that re-running the filter procedure two more times is totally unnecessary...and finding a way to re-use the original render would significantly cut down waiting for re-renders...especially on large images being put through slow filters...

As far as I can tell, after the image has been rendered at 100% on screen saving the image takes but a second.
The only time I saw a need to wait for a render in order to save a file, is when the render has not been complete on screen (Note that you have to wait for the Anti Aliasing to finish too).
As for re-rendering after a save, I haven't encountered such a thing. After saving an image my filter just stays put on screen, untill I change a setting.
Maybe it's a filter related thing, and I'm using the 'wrong' filters.

I agree with this and have mentioned it here before once i think. This causes problems on some computers as the CPU is constantly running high also, so if it were more optimized to just re-render only when needed that would be a lot nicer.

Vladimir once posted some images of a manual preview update which would be very useful -

That idea was going to be in V3 but i guess it was never used, i think it would be a great feature if it can be added though and it could probably be adjusted to stop the re-renders also.

Totally true and agree absolutely with StevieJ.

I have found also that when you:

1 -load an image
2 - load a filter for that image
3 - change the view from "reduced" to "Actual" and so begins to render
4 - Finishes rendering on the screen at full size
5 - Want to SAVE that finished render ? you can´t, FF must render it ALL again to save it smile:( smile:?:
6 - What is worse is that even after rendering it for a second time after saving and you choose view "actual" it WILL RENDER IT AGAIN !! smile:evil: smile:( smile:?:

If this was a realtime render or very short time it would not be a problem, but if the render takes about 5 minutes to render EACH TIME it is bad thing smile:evil:

Please, as said very well by StevieJ, Why is not possible to KEEP the first render in some kind of buffer? or be able to save it as a preview buffer to hard drive, or whatever and use THIS FIRST render to any future preview change and to SAVE the image to hard drive ?

I think is silly and needless to re-render each time the image.

I know this is not surely a bug, and this will not be fixed until a future version of FF sometime next year.

I think I know why I didn't have this re-render effect. I have the images open and render at "Actual" size as default.
It takes longer to reneder than "Reduced", but it eliminates the need to re-render and re-re-render smile:|

smile:?: smile:?:

How is possible to open images and render them at Actual size by default ?
Is this really possible? smile:?:

Well, if you already do it, it MUST be possible of course, I suposse you do not have any different FF version, do you? smile:D

So I went to Tools--> Options--> Interfaces AND there is it a checkbox called "Reduced preview size for larger images"

How could I not have seen this since FF 1.0 smile:?: I suposse that Has been available since then, and I have not seen it smile:blush:

Will try this and see what happens, thanks

This is true with the standalone version and it happens there.

I have just had an insight when working with the FF Plugin version inside photoshop.

WHen using the Photoshop version of FF you DO NOT have to RE-RENDER to be able to save it because you ONLY need to click on the "APPLY" button and is instantly saved to Photoshop without needing to re-render, no need to save it to hard drive and render it again.

So using the plugin version is much better in this part than the standalone version
