One of the reasons I bought FilterForge (lifetime updates) is because it touts HUGE resolutions up to 65536x65536.

I am here to say this is false advertising.

Here's a list of filters than cannot render above 8000x8000, and I need 15000x15000.

Concrete
Plastastic
Woeful Wood
Decay
Energy
Filtration
Ink Ghost
Lost Letter
Grass
Muscle Fiber
Crackles
Lake Bed
Odd Rock
Rock Salt
Cyber Circuits

I'm SURE there are many more. I have continuously added this bug report since 2.0 to support and they say it's on the list. BUT IT DOESN'T GET FIXED.

So, if a company advertises a feature and it isn't able to do it, is that false advertising? I say YES.

FIX THIS DAMN BUG!

You are right, I have also tried to use images of 12.000 x 9000 pixels and all give error and can´t render either in FF 2.0 or FF 3.0.

I have not tried all the filters but on the ones I have tried all give error and can´t render the final result at that very high resolution.

Even with images of 6000 x 6000 gives also errors.

Yes, is true, FF is making false advertising when they say that you could make renders of images up to 65536x65536 with ANY FILTER available. Perhaps it could work for filters that generate the image INSIDE FF, and it does not depend on an external image.

Huge Resolutions
The biggest one we tried was 65536x65536 pixels – and it worked! Granted, it took hours, but anyway! Furthermore, the interface remained responsive – we were able to zoom and pan the preview while rendering that monstrosity.

This text comes from the features page but does not say wich filter they used to make it and if it involved an external image or was just a FF own generated image.

Sorry, but this is not the way to ask for this, I know you are angry and want it fixed but you should ask it in a better why

Please, do you mind if I request if you could be so kind to tell the FF developers team to be so kind and would you mind and care about the users that wants to user higher resolutions and be able to fix this damm bug that has been there since FF 2.0?

This a more polite way to ask for it smile:D

If FF will care about it and will make something to fix it is another thing

Cool! looking forward to the holes filter

I tried some of those on that list and have had no issues with them....Tried at 9000x9000,15000x15000 and 20000x20000.....I have the AA settings set to render "All Pixels" 25 samples.....I also turn my ram usage to 40% so I can still do other things while FF renders....
Also I am on a slow machine by todays standards....Only an Intel Dual core OCed at 3gig....
Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times!

joBox, your anger is useless unless you provide more details. What is your OS, it is 32-bit or 64-bit, do you use Filter Forge in the plugin mode (if yes - under which host app) and – the most important – what is the exact error message you get.

GMM Yes, you are totally right, perhaps the important key to solving the mistery and fixing the possible bugs is to know EXACTLY WHEN AND HOW the error happens.

And thanks very much CFandM for testing yourself in high resolutions and that you have NOT had problems.

This are very good and interesting answers and from this I have made two new threads

What is the relation between the resolution size and the FF filter ?

GMM . . . here's my problem:

This has been a bug that has been around since 2.0. I have submitted ENDLESS bug reports to support (whenever it crashes), and get the canned response back, "Thanks for reporting this error. This is a known problem, the developers are working on it. We'll add your report to the statistics for this problem." each and every time.

Did you see those 2 words?? For over a year it's a KNOWN PROBLEM. We don't need to figure out how it happened, or what system I'm on to reproduce the problem because it's KNOWN.

SpaceRay, I've gone through the process of being nice & offering help, then begging, then pleading, then finally SNAPPING and posting on this forum. I understand that probably only .05% of the users render huge resolutions, so this is probably why support has put this bug on the back burner, BUT:

If they tout huge resolutions as a feature and it doesn't work, either take it off the feature list or FIX IT. I bought the program SOLEY for this feature, so you can see why I'm aggravated.

Imagine if you bought this program because of the seamless tile feature, then it didn't make seamless tiles. C'mon . .

If you are interested in my first bug submission, here it is:

CFandM,

Thank you for taking your time and looking into this on your system . . . I appreciate it!
Support seems to know the answer . . . . they just aren't doing anything about it for some reason.

My system is MORE than adequate:
Windows 7 (64-bit)
8 core / 18GB of RAM

So yeah, just wanted to drop you guys a line and say thanks to CFandM, SpaceRay, & GMM for trying to problem solve this . . .

My anger at this broken feature still stands, though smile:)

I understand very much your anger and that you have kept asking for a fix for this since long time ago and FF Inc. does not listen to you, OR they listen but doesn´t/can´t do something about it.

Having 18 GB RAM is not important at all with FF as it can ONLY use 1,5 GB.

Please joBox can you tell me how is configured your paging file size ?

Do you have it in C: drive or in another different drive ?

How big is your page file configuration ?

If you want to know why I am asking this, please read this thread here ---> http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=8&TID=9394

SpaceRay: Having 18 GB RAM is not important at all with FF as it can ONLY use 1,5 GB.
joBox: why, Why, WHY would FF limit the RAM to 1.5GB!?!?!? It's 2012, people have ALOT more RAM than they did in 2002!! Get with the times FF. I have 18GB of RAM ready and willing to chew through through your computations . . . c'mon!

SpaceRay: Please joBox can you tell me how is configured your paging file size ?
joBox: I am testing the page file size (fix) now and will report back with the results.

SpaceRay: Do you have it in C: drive or in another different drive ?
joBox: FF is installed on E:, but putting page file size on C: . . . I'm pointing temporary files to C: too. Will see what happens . . .

SpaceRay: How big is your page file configuration ?
joBox: 30GB so far, let's cross fingers smile:)

Thanks!

joBox, Thanks very much for all your data.

Why ONLY 1.5 GB ? Well on FF 1.0 back in 2006 they had a special custom memory manager made specially for FF that overrides any other memory controller, so it seems that even upgrading FF to 64 bit it would NOT work and would not use more memory.

So the solution would be to change and update the FF custom memory manager to use more RAM and be able to benefit from the new computers that have much more RAM than in 2006.

But I do not think that this is a simple thing, and probably would involve much work to do, and I do not think that FF Inc. will do it.

Please this thread too ---> http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...9&TID=9398

Please jobox, could you be so kind to test and confirm if you can use Filter Forge as a plugin of Photoshop (or another host) and see if you keep getting the same error ?

Thanks very much.

WHY I AM ASKING YOU THIS ?

Because I want to confirm if what I have discovered is true in all cases.

I have found that in my case this ONLY happens in the standalone version !!

I have got this error many times and with just a 2500x2500 photo smile:evil: smile:cry:

USING FILTER FORGE AS A PLUGIN OF PHOTOSHOP CS5 SOLVES THE PROBLEM !!! smile:)

BUT then I have used the SAME photo with Filter Forge as a plugin inside Photoshop and using the same filter and same settings, AND DO NOT GET ANYMORE this error , So I am happy that at least I know that to fix this undesired and unwanted error I just need to use Filter Forge as plugin and this SOLVES the problem. smile:)
