Now that there is available in the online library filters that are for FF 4.0 I think that this is something that may be needed to change to avoid confusion and also for filters downloaded from the forum.
Please, I want to suggest to change the "You need a newer version of Filter Forge. Go to download page?" message that appear when you are trying to download from the online library a filter for FF 4.0 using FF 3.0. Because this makes a confusion and does not tell WICH version do you need. ![]() Would be much more useful and helpful from my point of view that it could be something like for example You need the newer version of Filter Forge 4.0. Do you want to upgrade? You need the newer version of Filter Forge 4.0. Do you want to buy the upgrade? Also happens the same when downloading from the forum a filter for FF 4.0 Some days ago emme was very kind and helpful when he made a new version of his great and awesomely artistic Sketchy Painting filter by emme and uploaded it to the forum. Then I downloaded it and I had open the FF 3.0 and when trying to load it I got this error message "The filter "Sketchy Painting Alpha.ffxml cannot be opened. You need a newer version of Filter Forge. Go to download page?" I agreed and went to the download page although I had already downloaded the latest 3.014 version so I had already the newest version, but anyway I downloaded it again and installed the required newer version, BUT after it finished it kept telling me the SAME message ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then I wonder why FF can´t tell you something more useful and helpful and tell you something like for example The filter "Sketchy Painting Alpha.ffxml cannot be opened. You need the newer version of Filter Forge 4.0. Do you want to upgrade? AVOID CONFUSION DOWNLOADING FILTERS I know that when downloading filters from the online library is easy to know what version the filters you need to open as there is a number in the top left part. Recently there has been a message from Clint in this Heart Plant by CFandM that is a filter for the new FF 4.0 beta
Kindly CFandM explained it
So I want to suggest this change of message to avoid things like this that happened to me and Clint and more persons that could happen something similar and do not know why it can´t open a filter when asked for a newer version, and downloading the newer version it still does not work. Below are the real messages that appear as I already told above when trying to open a FF 4.0 filter on FF 3.0 Thanks ![]() |

I would also encourage folks that post filter links in the forums to please indicate if it is a FF4 filter.

I suggested above this text
But if there could be some technical or any other problem showing WICH version you would need and can´t show the number, then I think that it could be changed to this other message You need a higher version of Filter Forge. Do you want to upgrade? instead of the message you get now "You need a newer version of Filter Forge. Go to download page?" Going to the download page as is asked now, will not solve it as it is now, because if you have already downloaded it and your trial have finished on the new higher version, it will not work |

I want to suggest again that to avoid frustration, annoying and confusing error message about "You need a newer version of Filter Forge", it would be very good that it could be modified. At least show a difference between UPDATE and UPGRADE
I have already seen about 7 threads or posts with users that get confused about the "You need a newer version of Filter Forge" as is incomplete and does not tell really what is really happening and what you really need to do. You do not know if you need to update you own FF 3.0 version to a newer version or this message is because you need to upgrade to the new FF 4.0 Going to the download page will not solve the problem of upgrading to FF 4.0 |
