Filter in Progress: Midas
Based on a selection (just around the apple and leaf, not the shadow).

(the rest of them don't have the random test apple.)

yup, 'midas' is a winner. though, i do like the fading 'matrix' grid also.

Thing about Midas is that it's a surface filter. The reflection is built in. I couldn't even remotely get the look I wanted with the actual reflection parameters; it had a tenancy to NOT interact with the color as I liked. I wish we could specify when the reflection is blended in.

I'm also going to split the refraction blur from the source blur, since it's a pretty fast filter now (well, for me. The apple takes like 3 seconds to render).

So, this is from Midas, too, but I think it looks more like marble... Not that we need another marble filter, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

How the hell am I going to put this up into the library, when it needs a selection to work correctly?

Actually, the library could use some realistic marble filters.....and there are all kinds of different types that can be done..... smile;) smile:)

It connects to the selection function in PhotoShop......

Filters that use a selection load a default b/w image when rendered for the library, which looks something like this:

Here's an example of a filter using selections and how it looks on the library:

Sweet! But how do I make it use that default selection in MY FF so that I can adjust the settings to look correct? Am I missing the 'pretend there's a selection' button?

I like both of these filters, but I have to say your Midas filter is very impressive. Can't wait till you upload it.

In order to use selections I take it I must install FF into Photoshop and not use it as a stand alone like I have been?

Yes, I believe so. ::goes and tries it::

Actually, no. I just made a image with an alpha channel, and use the 'Open Image' thing in the stand alone FF, and it DID open the image with the center transparent, as the alpha channel said to. I also tried a black squiggle on a white background, and it made the squiggle transparent when I used 'Open Selection.'

(Confusingly enough, though, is that the image that I had opened before, with the alpha channel, STILL had it's alpha channel showing... so it's like I have 2 selections at once. smile:eek: I'll look into this.)

Problem with that is that some of the filters with selections I'm designing NEED the whole image, and the selection is just a component (IE, the effect goes outside of the selection boundaries.)

So, you CAN use selections outside of Photoshop, but it may not work as the filter author intended.

I have Photoshop on my other computer and FF on here. Maybe if I would stop downloading so many Poser pay fors and freebies I would have room for PS on this one and I could use that kind of filter. Been wanting to try the selection thing in FF and your Midas would be a great filter to start with. smile:D
