Hi, folks. I've been modding three filters developed by other FF users, and I'd like to know if there are guidelines for uploading modified versions of other people's work.

Seems ethical to give credit to the original author, at the very least, but the "Author" field in the Filter Info editor doesn't appear to support links to more than one author.

And if adding modded filters to the Filter Library is okay, then is it necessary or useful to send a message to the original author informing them of the mod?

Thanks.

There is no best practice but there is playing nice.... smile;) smile:)

If you want to send a note to the original author then that is cool...You can also make a note in the "INFO" section of the filter that you submit....Just take a look through other filters and see how the filter creator credited the original author of that filter.......

Here is the worst practice...Worst Practice
Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times!

Wow. That "worst practice" example is... quite illustrative. Not at all what I'm attempting. I've given credit to the original authors in the descriptions, and kept the original authors' descriptions intact -- except for Shaped Citrus II, because I got too wordy with my own description.

All of the original, pre-modded filters had presets; I left the original settings untouched, but tweaked each preset to showcase the new features.

I went through the upload process with several filters, and it appeared that the uploads were successful, but I don't see them in the Library yet. How long does it typically take for new filters to appear?

According to another thread new filters will be appearing on 8/11.

But it's typically pretty fast.

Ah. There we are. These are the modded filters I... co-authored?

Shaped Citrus II
Waning Ice Age
Shaped Magma v4.1
Shaped Volcanic Ash
Translucent Melting Ice/Snow

Each of the original filters had variations; I tweaked each variation so that the original settings remained the same, but the modded features were showcased. I tried to keep the original authors' descriptions in the Description field, although I got too wordy in the info for "Shaped Citrus II" and had to drop Moss's info. Sorry, Moss!

Is it possible to send a message to other FF users by a non-email method?

The following four posts contain the source images I used while crafting the modded filters, and are off-topic. Sorry about that...
