Couldn't resist. Besides, to make the filter's name really 'click' there was no way around making my own custom Preview Image. smile:D

Funny. Personally, I find it doesn't work well on thin structures, like your letter "A" there, especially if these are meant to be small-scale. A thin structure like that you'd render with a few continuous chalk strokes. However, if the letter was huge, then the hatching approach to rendering it would make sense. It really depends on the sense of scale you want to convey.

Makes me ponder whether this filter should really have two source inputs -- One for hatching/contours (as currently implemented) and one for outlines (new source input).

Here's a reference image of what I'm talking about:

Yes you are right about the fonts they are hard to get just right. I used your 6th preset (the one using the tree) on the big letter "A" because the settings were set so low that it gave it just enough distortion to make it look hand drawn. This is another example I did with different settings and the cross hatch is very prominent and in places sort of random.

It would be great if it did single strokes for thin lines like in the sample you posted above. It would work much better for fonts or simple drawings.

It is still a great filter and I am enjoying playing with it. smile;)

This is awesome. I was looking for a realistic chalk based filter. This is it. I agree that the only improvement that it needs is how it works with fonts that require one stroke. But love, love, love this! Thanks so much for sharing! smile:)

As someone who stares at (and occasionally reads smile;) ) chalkboards often, I can vouch for the realism of the background. Thanks for sharing, Dilla!

Thanks for sharing, Dilla!

My pleasure.

Besides, I can't be complaining about how these forums have died down -- and about people no longer sharing the Good Stuffâ„¢ -- and then fail to do something about it, eh? smile8)

In this filter you have to use SOURCE > LOAD IMAGE in the Settings dialog to select the image the effect gets applied to. (Not the usual way it is done, but this filter has been constructed in that manner.)

Also, you have to turn off the "Dilla" option...
