Thank you, I did this one because I am kind of back to Dungeons and Dragons table game, I though this could be a nice way of making new maps, half work done with some clicks.
Also I though this could potentially get an EP, but I was wrong ![]() "did you see that? but you knew that already because you are an advanced user" |

Great! It doesn't look as a filter. It is a complete work by itself. Very good. I like it a lot.
( By the way, I'm a Dungeons & Dragons player too ( table game type ). I also joined the European championship one time. I mainly played as Dungeon Master. He He ) |

I am a DM too... If I was a player I would have done a filter for sword generation

I vote this EP. -- Even if there's already something similar in the EP section!

I am uploading a new iteration with some nice stuff such as trees with tree shape.
I don't see any other fantasy map generator like this one in the library. Next thing to add, lines for kingdoms. "did you see that? but you knew that already because you are an advanced user" |

This is such a beautiful filter. Thanks so much for sharing it. I think it's EP worthy as well. Gonna love playing with this!

Beautiful map filter, deserving of an E.P! It shouldn't matter if there are other similar filters.
I like the option to preview the land mass before rendering, it really speeds up experimenting with the filter! |

I have a new update ready that fixes some trees issues, really evident mostly at high res renderings.

Problem: the filter doesn't work with anything that's non square.
Solution: probably need to change anchors for everything. |

That's great news!
For a seccond I thought "oh wait, do you get an EP when actually Erik Pedersen post in your thread?" I am working on a new update to solve some flaws from non squared gerenations. "did you see that? but you knew that already because you are an advanced user" |

HA HA! I have to admit that it crossed my mind if you did NOT get a 'real' EP that I would bestow upon you and honorary 'E.P.' from me.
![]() I plan on using this as a background and adding some 3D rendered elements (sailing ships, sea monsters and land beasts, etc. I'll try to remember to post it here when I get it done.) Keep up the great work! The Joy is in The Work |

I keep getting an error trying to download this (with the very latest version, bought today, but NOT the 5.0 beta which I haven't tried).
"Filter Download Failed. Reason: 'get_filter_xml(12148,6) failed'. I realize this might be a site issue, but it's too bad as I'd really like to try this one (no other filter download, so far, has caused any problems). Win 8.1, if that's any help. |

Sorry -- pay no attention to this post, it has now (the next day) downloaded.
Was this some sort of download limit I reached yesterday? Perhaps, and after I got this error I couldn't download anything else so today that was the first thing I tried and it did work. |

Yep, I got an error not downloading, but working with it:
<class XFW::LogicError> Last filter action id (0) doesn't match current filter id (12148). I am attaching the filter (an updated version) so you can use it. Fantasy Cartographer.ffxml "did you see that? but you knew that already because you are an advanced user" |

Thanks, that's very generous of you to take the time to do that.
This is all pretty amazing stuff -- I used to own DarkTrees, which was a similar product (although many, many years ago) and I never got around to really using it much. Now that I'm (slowly) getting back to animation I can see a really use for both the filter aspect of FF as well as the patterns. |

Haha this is great, I used DarkTrees too, on 3D max ^^
Now I would say the best option is Substance Designer (SD), but I always come back to FF. Allegorithmic's noises and other base generators are so much better in FF or easier to use at least... sometimes I have to render first what I need in FF and then go to SD. Yes, I used it with 3DS Max (and after all these years I have come back to Max -- I was an early adopter, back when it was 3DS Studio and ran in DOS. I suspect you kids won't know what I'm talking about :>).
I'll have to look at Substance Designer, but I'm far more of an end user than I am a "designer" when it comes to these things. I do wish there was an option to use FF inside of Max natively, like you could with DarkTrees (heck, I wish I could use it natively inside of Photoshop, like I can with other third party filters -- if only I could use some of those creative filters with my animation, processing the actual animation rather than just the backgrounds, it would be amazing). |

This is an awesome filter! I make games, and it's made certain aspects of the process a lot faster. The Shape Preview control is especially handy; it makes for a great terrain heightmap base. Kudos for making this! ^_^

Hello Niki.

Yeah, I mostly use Unity. Sometimes I'll play around with CryEngine or Unreal, but Unity was my first and I've grown a bit attached.

I'd like to know if there is a way to eliminate the compass illustration on the bottom. Otherwise this would be a great addition to my Ukelo Project.

Sure. Use the control with the number 5, if you lower opacity to 0 it'll desapear.

This filter has never worked non-square for me even though that's been fixed according to the author. Am I missing something?

I am having issues across multiple filters, but this one and a planet generator had me most excited with a few new projects I've been working on. I know this filter is older, but FilterForge support has told me they can't advise at all, and instead told me to reach out to the creators and the forums for aid. I don't think it is a problem of having an older version (FF 4.0) but it does make rendering images impossible. See the attached image for examples of the errors going on.

Hi TLJonline : I know with the planet generator you have to have a SQUARE canvas, but you can then put it in canvas of any size you want. For instance I create a square 1920x1920 canvas, run the planet filter then drag that into a 1920x1200 and resize it down and finish out the background. It would be NICE if you didn't have to do it that way, but some of these ones that REQUIRE a square canvas also make some of the most amazing images! For the cartography one - I have wrestled with it from time to time and end up doing a fair amount of Photoshop work to it in 1920x1200 images.
I hope this helps some. The Joy is in The Work |

That would be a handy thing for FF support to mention. I didn't realize any filters had that requirement. Thank you!

I could have swore we brought the square canvas thing up with dactilardesign and thought it had been addressed. Can you double check that you have the latest version of the filter?

I probably have two versions because I had copied and pasted my entire Filter Forge downloaded library into the installation folders after starting over with a new hard drive. In any case, correct me if I am wrong, but the older version did NOT have the "Fill Proportionately" checkbox. I have two versions of this filter, one with and one without that - that's the only way I could tell I didn't have two copies of the same filter.
