Very nice kaleidoscopic filter. I tried several pictures, getting great results with all them.

Thanks. I like being able to see the "seed" shape first, got this idea from Terrazzo (Xaos Tools, defunct). There are infinite (that's a lot smile;) ) symmetrical and non-symmetrical tile patterns, so I am thinking of doing a series until I reach that number, each with 7 different seed shapes. I could never figure out how to display the seed shape of the Kaleidoscope component, so I created the tiles the old fashioned way, flip, rotate, offset, blend...

Also of note, the output of this filter can be used as a seamless tile. I had to turn the option off in the code for technical reasons.

I had downloaded this filter awhile back, but not noticed that you were using the tile seed idea on this one, too. Is this one of the wallpaper group variations?

Here is one of my outputs from it:

No, although at least 2 of the wallpaper groups are in this one. This was my first attempt at tiles, not bad, but disorganized, did not know the whole theory of wallpaper (or that there were 17 types). Also notice that if the image is not square, I did not clean up the excess parts of the image (like your post).

It actually looked fine in the preview. I was surprised that it added the extra strip at the bottom when it rendered, but of course I can trim it off.

Sigh... I suppose I should fix that. I'll probably consider updating this filter after the 17 Wallpaper Groups.

Since you mentioned it Haras, I have looked at the tiles in Tile-O-Matic and have classified each tile and the wallpaper group it comes fr om.

Tile Type
---------
1 - Wallpaper Group 11 p4mm
2 - Wallpaper Group 11 p4mm
3 - Wallpaper Group 6 p2mm axis rotated 45 degrees
4 - Wallpaper Group 6 p2mm
5 - Wallpaper Group 6 p2mm axis rotated 45 degrees
6 - Wallpaper Group 6 p2mm rectangular
7 - Hybrid: the "cell" is Group 2 p2 (seed rotated 180 degrees), the tiling is Group 6 p2mm. Using an "irregular" seed shape gets into an area known as Heesch tiles, wh ere tiles are modified regular polygons with curves. Maybe if I could draw the curve in FF...

The filter has been updated with xirja's speed improvement he suggested while I was working on the wallpaper groups. Tomorrow the excess image bug for non-square images will be fixed.

i wonder how is going to be fixed this? It will cut the image on the first square part, or will you use the excellent wallpaper groups source image to choose which part will be selected?

Thanks to you and cirja for the update

Tomorrow is Monday, not quite yet, but the speed fix is already in... A couple of the file types (3 & 7) return a non-square image if a portrait or landscape image is used. This filter always returns a square result.
