Oh yes! A fine example of the new Bomber Plus in action.

This is one of those fantastic filters. Really does the job, plus utilizes the new Bomber+ to get those curves right. I was thinking of doing something similar, just never bothered beyond some simple examples. People probably don't realize it, but it's extremely complicated actually getting those particle shapes to align/curve to the input. This filter just that.

Thanks xirja and Skybase. smile:D Sometimes you get lucky, the first thing I tried worked... but yes, complicated. Using the actual rotation map at each particle position does not work very well (plus this uncovered a possible cache bug), so I generated my own rotation map from the center and corner rotation points. Probably my most innovative filter to date, but you can't really expect most people to appreciate the "technical" challenge. Just so it looks good. I'm certainly enjoying using it and I'm glad you both like it.

UPDATE: there are known issues with this filter and non-square images (such as landscape or portrait). The workaround is using the filter posted here. It removes the particle adapter and works well with non-square images. For technical reasons this filter can not be submitted to the FF library.

Is this why my photo of Shanti looks so bad when I use this filter. It is landscape and not a square. smile:?: LMK

Yes. Download the Impressionist Curve no PA.ffxml in the previous post. It should end up in your My Filters folder in the upper left pane.

I noticed you said the update was not available in the FF library due to technical reasons. Does this mean FF works best with square images only?

I'd say about half of the FF filters work correctly with landscape/portrait images. Excluding the texture filters, which need to be square to be tiled. Impressionist Curve uses a new component (Bomber+) which does not work properly with the recommended method so... the workaround is temporary while FF tries to figure out how to fix the issue. I'll update the library version when this component issue is fixed.

The reason why is not avaible in the FF library (as far as I know) is that it is not allowed to have any warning inside the filter, and there seems to be some problem with the new bomber+ that gives a warning when with particle adapter and is not true that this warning happens, but it is there although the result works correctly , so is until the false warning can be removed it can not be put in FF library

please, if I am wrong with this answer, correct me and tell me about it

I like this one and will probably use it. it first struck me as a sort of furry look, but In subsequent pictures it looked more of a van gogh look, which I like very much! smile:)

Thanks all for your comments. Good news! I've found a workaround for the Particle Adapter / Bomber+ compatibility issue. It has been submitted and will probably be out tomorrow.

Yes, there is now a Portrait/Landscape checkbox which when checked allows non-square images to work properly with the filter.

I love this filter.
I used it on a very large panoramic file of 500mb, it took all night but it looked great ........ until I zoomed in. It seems the strokes are put over the original image and being a big image, there were quite large areas of the original image peaking through. It would be much better if you removed the original image from under the new brush strokes or perhaps a setting could guarantee no gaps so the original couldn't be seen. I would play with the settings if it didn't take all night!. Actually would be better if the filter could render onto a separate layer but I guess that is a FF problem.

Thanks. smile:) Here are the settings that might help you out.

First of all, make sure you have the best preview settings in Filter Forge:
Go to Tools/Options/Interface
Make sure Reduce preview size for larger images is checked. That way you can check the settings before doing the Save As (rendering the image).

Setting Brush Density to 1 is the highest brush density.

If the Brush Shape is 90 or higher, this is a thin brush and there are probably going to be "holes in the picture. Also high values of Brush Distortion will probably create "holes" in the picture since the brush is twisted and stretched.

Trying using Variation to change brush positions.

You can change Background Lightness to 0 to test. The places that are not painted will be black.

Let me know if this helps. I might consider modifying the filter to add a higher brush density option. The downside to higher brush densities is it takes longer to render. And there is still no guarantee that there will not be holes in the picture since brush positioning is random to some degree.

Thanks Rick,
I actually ran another last night with density at maximum, thinking that would cover more area, never mind. I will give those new settings a go tonight. I'm loving your filters so keep it up!
