Nice one! (the only thing I'd improve is to make the stars a bit brighter).

Yes they are a bit dim. It also might help if I added some slight color variation (I'm thinking very pale reds, blues and perhaps greens).

It's funny. This filter is more the result of experimentation than having a clear goal in mind.

I'll make some additions tonight and submit an update. Working with procedural textures is still pretty alien to me (no pun intended) but I'm getting better by the day.

Just checked out the updated version -- nice work. I managed to make it somewhat quicker by reducing Roughness of the Perlin noise you used as an Elevation Map for colorizing the stars. You can set it to zero, it won't change anything but the render will be faster.

I hope you dont mind I took your concept and have been working on my own variety by adding more sub layers as far as nebulas and variations in star sizes and intensity including ones with a twinkle Though to be quite frank as is typical my filter isnt the most user friendly since I want people to be able to fine tune it and its a way bigger memmory hog then yours

I could add some more size variation but I don't think it would add much given the expense. The only means I can think of would be to duplicate strings of components, each time making slight adjustments to the controls and generally speaking, if I can't achieve an effect with a handful of components I tend to get the impression that I'm not taking the right approach.

That said, if an idea comes to me that would improve the filter with little overhead, I'll be sure to revisit this filter but for the moment I consider it complete.

The best of this type filter though the thumbnails could use a couple other colors demonstrated.

Beautiful work!
