I don't know why, but this filter freezes my program. It won't render at all. And I can't open the filter editor.

I do not converse on this website. I only utilize the Filter Forge software and the repository library function on the Filter Forge website to store the results of my computer graphics programming work. This is a general public statement and filter description addendum for anyone using the "Sign Dots" filter. I treat this general statement strictly to address a technical issue regarding my computer graphics programming for the "Sign Dots" filter that I have released on the Filter Forge library repository, as addendum to the "Sign Dots" filter description: Filter Forge does not call the prepare function on a seperate processing thread, therefore the "Sign Dots" filter may appear to freeze Filter Forge until it finishes all pre-calculation in the prepare function. This issue is resolved by waiting for the prepare function to complete all required pre-calculation. Reducing the parameter named 'Number of Particles' will alleviate this issue by reducing the time required to complete all pre-calculations in the prepare function.

This looks cool and interesting, nice patterns and well done.
I have not tested it myself and do not know how it works |

Tried it on a MacBook Pro with FF7 and FF9. In both cases the program spins the color wheel and nothing happens, have to Option-Command-Esc to get out. If I do get in and try to edit, same thing happens, hangs in the editor too.
UPDATE: on my new Macbook Pro it takes over 4 minutes to do anything, then only 1 more minute to render. Odd behavior from FF, spinning color wheel, and during the waiting time it only used 1 or 2 CPU cores according to top. GMM??? Math meets art meets psychedelia. |

COULD IT BE POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF THE MAP SCRIPT?
After waiting for the filter editor, I have seen that it uses a Map Script, so I wonder if there could be something wrong in the script that may freeze FF for some time? Could it be optimised? MY PERSONAL TEST I have tried to use this as it looks very good, nice and cool, but for me is as it happened already to other users. For me too it freezes if I try to do any of the following from start 1 - PRESETS - Try to choose any of the presets 2 - SETTINGS - Try to change any of the settings 3 - FILTER EDITOR - Try to open it in Filter editor, although it seems that if you double click on the filter and wait some time it will appear it after the freeze is over and then wait for the preset to render.
So according to this to be able to use the filter we have to wait until the rendering of the first preset is done without touching anything to avoid that FF freezes and you recommend to reduce the number of particles So I have followed this and I have waited until the first preset is finishes and then waited some time more, and this is what happens (Note: As it was not working right after waiting, I leave it for 20 minutes and then I came back.) 1 - PRESETS - I can choose any of the presets and have to wait until the preset is rendered, for example preset 8 has taken 3 minutes to finish in 600x600 2 - SETTINGS - If I try to change any of the settings, as soon as I touch anything it changes the value just a little bit, it freezes everything again until the new image is rendered. BUT after 5 times trying to reduce the number of particles I could reach to below 70 and then seems to be usable and does not freeze. So to avoid this do NOT use the slider, and modify directly the number with the keyboard. 3 - FILTER EDITOR - If you have rendered the preset and waited some time, then if you double click on the filter, but will open immediately on the filter editor, although is frozen until the preset is rendered and the icons showing, and after some minutes, it will be usable, but as it happens in point 2, as soon as you touch anything, it freezes again, and have to wait again until it may be usable again. Trying to change any of the settings inside the filter editor happens the same as in point 2, you can only change it a little bit using the slider and then it freezes and must wait again, so really instead of using the slider just change any setting with keyboard instead of any slider, and wait again for it to render. |
