Wow, you only submitted two filters and one of them earned you a reward. That's 50%, I don't even have one, I suck. smile:(

BTW excellent filter, very usable.

Hehe, thanks. Glad you like it.

I got the free copy not just because of the filters, but also for the beta testing and submitting of bugs.

i like the effect, but i think you named it wrong. it looks more like mud or clay to me. something about that dull matte finish, i guess. good effect, though and very usable.

Yeah, I tried to make it more like a pile of rocks, but I had trouble getting the cracks to separate the rocks into individual elements. I wanted more overlap.

Here's a picture of the kind of effect I wanted. If anyone knows how to get this kind of effect, I'd love to hear about it.

eric, have a look around in the library. check the 'building' and 'stone' categories in particular. see what others have done.

i'd also suggest not changing this exact filter. leave it like it is. i wasnt just being 'nice' when i said it's a good effect. it's quite usable just like it is. it just doesnt look like stone to me.

i remember someone else commenting on the stone look. they were reminding that stone has grain and little mineral specks and some reflectivity to it. mud and earth, not so much. so, you might explore those avenues a bit.

as for more separation in your rocks, try adding a threshold or levels component. these can increase the separation with lights and darks quite nicely.

Cool. Thanks for the ideas. I played around with some ambient-occlusion style color & reflection controls, really helps a lot. Might submit a new version later, allow the user to turn it on/off if they like.

yup. good idea.

also, plug the perlin noise or one of the stones into the 'surface color' node on the results component. that will help a lot also.

and, i played around with this just now. you're overcomplicating this a bit. i totally removed the 'cells' components. dont need them... at least for now. get your 'rock' look first and then, if you wish to refine it further, try the cells again, but i'm guessing you wont need them.

i'm attaching just a quickie version i did. pay no attention to anything but the first preset. the rest are almost worthless in this version. i just wanted to show you some of the things i said. it would still need a lot of refinement.

and ignore the fact that when i saved this version it stuck my name as the author. just remove that if you use this. and feel free to use it if you wish... or toss in the garbage can smile:)

OK I see what you're doing but I didn't like the way the interiors of the Stones have those straight equidistant slopes. And the grooves between the Stones keep going too far, too many rocks line up with each other. You're right though, probably too many layers with the Cellular. Going to try using another noise pattern for the base.

Thanks for the sample.
