That's pretty weird looking, like distorted blocks or something, looks cool, and I have no idea how it was done.

This filter basically is a standard Noise Distortion component reverse engineered, with the Perlin noises replaced by Worley noises.
A highly underrated 'component'... ![]() ... and sort of the big brother of this one! --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

This is very cool -- I think the noise distortions are much more interesting than those produced by the simple "distort" component. Just think of the kaleidoscopes I could make!
![]() And I must complement you on the elegance and legibility of your filter -- I opened it up (of course!) and could tell right away where everything went and how things connected. I know that filter makers have no obligation to make the structures of their filters intelligble, but boy, do I appreciate when they do! ![]() Something really weirds me out, though: the idea that "worley" is a tech term, one that anyone familiar with textures and fractal noise would recognise instantly. I know Steve Worley (my husband was/is friends with him and exported many of his textures to 3-D Studio Max), and though I've always known he was f**king brilliant, to think that he's also famous is a little mind-boggling. It's kind of cool, like knowing a celebrity from high-school or something. ![]() Kat

Thanks. Keeping filters as legible as possible really is one of those habits that grew out of my own lazyness: Not only does a clear filter tree structure make filter maintenance (i.e. updating) and optimizing a breeze, it also helps others understand how to do certain things more easily. Imagine you wanted to update a filter you last worked on a year ago, only to find it a spaghetti-like jumble of nodes: pure horror! Since we have unlimited "working space" in the editor, why not use it! ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

yup, the first thing i do when i open up someone else's filter is, rearrange it. FF is a linear program, very much like flow charting. so, i spend the first five or ten minutes re-working the thing to be more readable. and, that also means that if i like the filter and am going to use it, i will re-save it and that means their original filter isnt going to get a usage rank rating from me. so, there's another good reason to order your components sanely.
