i looked at this as more of mud than stone and in that regard i wouldnt address those same things. lol. it always happens, two people, two views. i was also hoping someone else would address some good old 'earth' filters. we actually dont have enough of them in the library... mud, dirt, and so on. there's a very wide gap there yet to fill.

Fun mud, Redcap.
Here's an idea I had for removing those puddles/depleted areas (see attachment below). I made it quick, so the parameters may not be the best. And there may be an entirely different, better way of "addressing" it... (so use the idea or ignore it -- either way, nice filter. ![]() MireA.ffxml |

This comment will make a whole lot more sense after my update comes through...
I grew up in Idaho were both of my grandfathers were farmers. They would irrigate their fields, and a collection of mud would gather in which pools of water would form. While created this filter, I actually stumbled across it while trying to learn how to use Filter Forge. It wasn't anything intentional; however, when I saw the rendered map I thought it looked exactly like the mud and mire of an Idaho irrigation canal, so I posted it. I have since been able to practice with Filter Forge and feel quite compotent with how to work it,and have subsequently added a feature to get rid of the water effect. ssamm, I am sorry but I wanted to try it on my own, so haven't looked at your suggestions yet. Anyway, now we have the best of both world's. If you don't like the pools of water than you just check a box and bingo, no water (at least 95% of the time) if you like water, just uncheck the box and it feels like you are standing in a moisted potatoe field in the Gem State of Idaho again. Also thanks for all the positive feedback; however, I have one confession and question. This is my first filter for filter forge so I didn't know how to use the program 100% while making it. So I looked at Chocolate Fountain and actually took some of the program directly into this one. Such as I didn't know how to make a glow effect or even how to set color. Anyway, my intension is not to steal someone elses filter or hard work, so I put all the code I copied and pasted and the bottom of this filter, and all my original work at the top. (When I say top and bottom I mean the filter tree layout, so open this filter in edit to see what I am talking about.) Anyway my question is this, I didn't copy any features of Chocolate fountain, such as using an image to make it look muddy, rather I just copied some of the more basic approaches to using Filter Forge, like how to create a 3D map, set color to a map, and make a picture glow. If this is considered ripping off an existing filter, by all means, please attribute this filter to Vladimire Golovin for showing me the basics of Filter Forge with his work on Chocolate Fountain. So with that said, and I mean it, I am 100% content if Vladimire Golovin wants the credit; I still believe this is a unique filter and that I only used Chocolate Fountain as a help to get introduced into FF, so if there is anyway possible for me to keep this filter attributed to me I would love that too. Thanks FF team and everyone else, great program. P.S. I really do think this is the best program I have seen on the web and know that FF will make a killing in the Photoshop market. |

No problem. I was mainly just trying to help in case you couldn't come up with a solution yourself. That you did come up with a solution on your own (while being totally new to FF) is impressive. Actually, I also grew up in Idaho. But it was in the "big" city of Idaho Falls of 40,000+ people. So I probably didn't see as much mud and mire as you -- but it's fun to now think of this filter as an "Idaho-Mire" filter. ![]() As far as getting ideas from other people -- you could possibly mention names in your filter description that it was inspired, or influenced, (or whatever) by so-and-so. Everyone here should know that anyone can examine any library submitted filter and make their own modified version -- so they shouldn't get too upset or surprised that someone takes an idea from their filter. If anything, maybe it's flattering to them. And if you mention their name in the filter description maybe it might be all the more flattering to that person. (Just my opinion here.) |

redcap, what ssamm said goes for me too. use whatever you like. FF was developed and released with that principle in the fore. just throw a bone to whomever in the description if it's really something you borrowed. the whole 'snippet' category is a prime example of this. they were made for others to use. noone i've seen here has ever objected to someone using 'their' routine as long as credit is given. it's only when someone tries to blatantly copy something and claim it as their own where we get peeved.

When am I going to learn to listen the first time. StevieJ was 100% correct, what I thought looked like water did, bu one in some places, the light work for my advantage some times but not always. So I have just posted a second update, should be in tommorrow that eliminates the water effect and makes the texture render almost five times faster! (That is just an estimate) Check out some of my new textures as well guys, they are coming along and I would appreciate feedback so I can improve them.

I am getting to like this filter more and more because if you save an image from it and apply another filter to it you can get some awesome effects, like this one...
