Hi ronviers its hard to come up with a different kind of plastic wrap effect, but you've done it so well done and it looks useful smile:)

Good morning Carl and Crapadilla,
Thanks a lot for the positive comments and for looking at the new filter. smile:D It’s a real motivator and it gives me a better idea of what other’s find interesting. I sure would like to make a high usage one.

Negative comments are always welcome too.

It's a challenge and crapadilla is atuned to this far far more than me, clever photo enhancement rather than pattern or textures seem to have a bit more a shot at highs but thats just my opinion smile;) smile:D

Well, original ideas always get attention. And this one should definitely come in handy, especially the normal/bumps maps... smile;)

Personally, I'd like to see a cloth version of this, kind of like a blanket stretched over a crate...

I will get to work on it right after I finish some loose ends on the one I'm working on now. Thanks for the suggestion. Just a couple of days ago I was looking at linen under a microscope - interesting. It's not all in the weft and warp but much of it is.
It will be the perfect opportunity for me to spend some time working with noise.
smile:)

a GREAT idea

No creativity with this one - it was pure serendipity. I was working on something else and noticed the effect and thought "hey what the hell - I'll submit it". Now it is one of my most popular. What is the universe trying to tell me? smile:?:

Can this be adjusted/edited to work with 'non square' images?

Thanks

Sure thing! smile:) Thanks to ThreeDee's 'Proportional Gradient' snippet. I will post an update but I will post it here too.

Here is an improved variation.

Hey Triniart, since it now supports non-square images I will add a flag mode where only on side is pinned and the other side has flap. I will submit it soon. smile:)
Thanks for reminding me about this one. smile:)

Keep an eye out for the new one. Since it is so different I will release it as a separate filter.
From this.

To this.
It would look a lot better if I had a better source image. This is one I found with google.
This filter will not only allow you to display your patriotism but it will test it as well – this puppy is slow. This sample has a lot of wind, if you do not want so much flapping that can be turned down and it will render faster. I will try to speed it up before I submit it. smile:)

hmmm, not where i thought you were going with this. this is almost a displacement filter.

I just realized what a performance hit there by adding the non-square option. smile:eek: So I am returning the original to the library too. This one will have non-square in the title. The new new one will be the old one and this new one will be the old new one. smile:|

Unfortunately I got confused during the submission process and ended up with two filters of the same name. smile:( Filter number 3177 is the non-square variant but I have a version that is faster that I will submit after I get the duplicate names resolved. For now I will post the new faster non-square version here.

Hi Ronviers,

I like this one. I was looking for an effect just like this for something!

Also, you might have better luck with speed using the faster Proportional Gradient just submitted.

I have just discovered this filter and it seems to give a very good and realistic plastic wrap effect, like it

What is curious is that it seems that it won a High Usage award but now it has a low rank.

Yes, I agree, is difficult to make a believable wraping plastic effect but this one is very well done, and useful too.
