Just wanted to give a few examples of some uses I've found for this one.
Here is one of the textures used on a sphere primitive (I also used a modified version of the bump map to make a transparency map.):
And here, I used the bump map as a height field:

...and finally, a bunch of the presets used on various 3D primitives, along with another I created with this filter, used for the water:

That's about all for my mad scientist experiments at the moment.

Thanks
Mapping a square texture onto a sphere is always a bit dicey, and this one took a bit of experimentation to get the look I wanted. (Okay... I was nearly pulling my hair out for a minute on it... ) Okicyapo

I like the floor it makes. Very nice!
It did make that floor, right?

Haha... this is one of those times I need the smiley which rolls its eyes... right after I say, "However did you know these were done with Bryce?" hehehe
(And they actually were kinda fun, even though the sphere was a bit of a hair puller for a minute there.)

Ummmmmm...... Not sure which image you mean. All of these were rendered in 'Bryce', with the 3D primitives being textured with the maps I generated with this filter.
I'm sure you don't mean the first image, but in the second one, I used the 'bump map' from one of this filter's textures to define a terrain object. In some 3D programs, you can use an image as a 'height map', with white being the highest point, and black the lowest.
(Filter Forge actually does this with any 'surface' filter... it's just that you only view this 'landscape' from directly 'overhead'.)
Essentially, the landscape in the second image is a perspective view of a very exaggerated bump map. (The orange & blue striped coloration is one of Bryce's native textures.)
The 'floor' in the 3rd image is simply one of the maps from this filter, used to define the distortion of a 'water plane'. Okicyapo

The last pic. Ok, got it now. I forgot that we can use bump maps to make terrains. This could get very interesting.

Hehe... Indeed. I just used a couple of the images from this filter's presets for the coloration and transparency of two spheres in Bryce. (setting up the soft lighting is another story... )

ROFL I've been addicted to 3D since back when I had a 486sx computer... Waiting 3 hours for a render at 50x100 pixels!

Craig, Daz Studio and a lower version of Bryce are free. Can't hurt to download them and give them a try.

Yep... and if you need more modelling tools, look up 'Anim8or', and 'Blender'. Both are free and useful 3D tools.
P.S. I am always happy to answer any questions about 3D work if I can. Feel free to email me in this regard at any time.
