Very nice!!! .....and just in time for the holidays smile;) smile:)

The only thing I would suggest is to add a Background color toggle and a background color picker.....but can be used fine as is.....

Excellent work!!! smile:)

Thanks guys...

Sorry Stevie, you might have guessed from my other filters. I don't do backgrounds when they're not necessary. If you want a background you can just render the filter onto a filled layer, or (from FF like I mostly do) create a new image with a background color.

I didn't know, but now I do smile;) smile:) I mentioned it because I liked your sample on the blue/grey background......and thought the flakes would look good on just about any color smile:)

yup, would make a great addition. i liked that blue/gray background too. very easy to do and would some extra value to the filter. just make it an optional toggle thing.

and what happened to the multi-flakes?

Multi-flakes got rejected because the render time was to long. It's really difficult to cut down the rendertime and still get the same effect.

well, screw the time. i'd like to see this filter. post it in the forums or send it to me email. i'd love to look under the hood on this one. that 'same effect' image is just too cool smile:)

I'm just gonna have one more go at it. If I don't succeed I'll post it here.
I did just submit a filter 'hardcore quilting' that uses the same technique. It's really easy basicly:
- you just take a portion of a noise and put it in a quadrant
- flip it horizontally and blend it with the original
- flip it vertically and blend it with the original
- rotate that sixty degrees and flip it
- then use a lightness blend twice to squash the last three images together

I hope the season will kick in here too. It's cold outside, but no snow yet. Winters were a lot harsher when I was a kid smile:-(. I want ice on the canals... and an Elfstedentocht!

NW (U.S.) here, not that anyone asked, but since we're talking weather ha-ha. It's snowed like 5 times this year, but there's only about 2 inches left on the lawns, and only on side streets now. It keeps warming up to 35*-38* a few days after each snowfall, then of course, 80%+ of it melts away. It's 36* right now and melting, but it's supposed to snow an inch or two tonight. Very different from my childhood here, when it would snow in late October or early November, and not go away for 4 or so solid months. There'd be piles of snow 12-15 feets tall at the malls, in the far corners of the parking lot, where they pushed it all up to get it out of the main areas by the stores. Usually by March the streets would be clearing up, and people would have a foot or so left in their yard til the middle of March. I have no real opinion of snow either way, although I prefer it not be on the streets really.

That makes perfect sense to me. Awesome. Only part i'm unsure on is how to put it in a quadrant.

You can see it if you open Hardcore quilting: the first part. There I blend a horizontal and a vertical gradient and take a fifty percent threshold to create a white square on a black background. The white square (in the fourth quadrant) blends (darken) a noise.
