Man, I guess I'm gonna be that guy again. Look, enthusiasm is great, but none of your filters are, none of them look like anything anyone wants or would use really. You need to take a break and experiment and learn some more, stop clogging the library with hail mary shots. In case you don't know, you can get one or even two, 30 day extensions on the trial period. Ie = you can take some time, get better, and submit stuff that will 1) win/earn you the free copy of FF, and 2) not get verbally abused like this (or worse almost, ignored completely like your filters have been). You can do better, anyone can, it just takes time, take that time eh.

You're missing the point, jffe.
Everyone's currently busy shooting for that exact 5000th library filter submission mark that Vlad promised a hand-signed FF v2 Experimental version for, so go easy on them... ![]() ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

ouch!
![]() BTW, I can think of a couple of very prominent (and apparently popular) posters in here who deserved this message a looong time ago but they walked by unscathed. I think we should be more consistent in our criticism or it could easily push people from participating on these boards. (I, for one, while never feeling attacked, have never quite felt welcome. I guess I don't "fit in" either.) |

I guess the lesson that newcomers need to take home is the following: Don't ever submit your early filter experiments! Period. It is too easy to get lured into the quantity over quality trap in the frantic chase of that elusive free version of FF. As has been demonstrated over and over again, spamming the filter library is not a viable strategy.
Instead, learn the app thoroughly until you have the skills to produce rough filter gems. Take your time to polish those filter gems thoroughly (possibly baptizing them in the flames of community criticism as well). Submit only once they start sparkling. This will go a long way in building a lasting reputation for quality on these boards and also makes for most impressive debuts.
Wait, gotta put on my sunglasses quick... ![]() ![]()
Really? I was under the impression that we welcomed everyone here, and blue frogs in particular. Regardless, if an aspiring filter author is really up to the challenge, I think he'd be very welcome to join us in keeping the flames of constructive criticism burning. ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

I have hundreds of tests, subTests, and sub-subTests. The earliest of mine were after a good period of time getting used to FF and I found them useful in my day work (though they're quite sad to see now!) I also tend to build very modular filters that allow great amounts of control (and has the respective number of controls to show it!) These are not as well received as the one-shot filters so I keep them to myself.
Just my viewpoint… (and no personal offense to you, dilla). |

i dont know, dilla. on the surface i tend to agree with you there about quality/quantity, but if i look back at my own experience, i produced the most HU's when i was cranking things out pretty fast.
i think there's also a LOT to be said for posting anything and everything up. well, maybe not EVERYTHING, but there's the point of not knowing what's truly needed and wanted. one man's just is another's treasure and all that. also, there's just the good old idea of post it up and see if it sticks and the post it up as a learning tool in itself and let the market sort it out. so, whereas in principle, i mostly agree, by experience it hasnt quite worked out that way for me. and, one shld also keep in mind that too much quality will keep any quantity from occurring. that works both ways, of course. too much quantity can negate having any quality. so, i think you need a balance. but, i've also noticed a real lack of quality lately. so, i'm not too much out of agreement with you ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
