The filter can be expanded with other types of knurling, I think about it.

Very true, it embodies a look that I associated with science and quality as a kid. This one is Japanese but companies like LOMO and Ziess had a very similar appearance – now it's all jellybean shaped nylon. Come to think of it, we need one of those textures of that ubiquitous black surface used by Spencer and others.
